HARRY'S TOP 10 WAYS TO BE THE BEST REALTOR IN YOUR LOCAL MARKET

PHOENIX REAL ESTATEI spent the first fourteen years of my career in Corporate America. Then, I decided to enter into the real estate industry. It has been a roller coaster ride ever since I signed up for this duty. I always thought Realtors made easy money. I WAS WRONG! Let me repeat I WAS WRONG! This is the hardest job in the world. This is owning your own business 100% of the time. So, please read the following ways to become a better Realtor:

  1. Treat this job as your own business
  2. Be persistent-Do not take no for an answer
  3. Stay focused and do not listen to the negative people
  4. Continue to take classes to learn new things in real estate
  5. Create your own Network-become a one stop shop for real estate investing
  6. Become a decision maker
  7. Obtain a mentor to guide you through the rough waters
  8. Develop your niche in your local marketplace
  9. Do not procrastinate
  10. Be a positive force

I just giggle when I come across those people who think I make "easy money".  In two months I'll be 20 years in, nothing easy about it.

Harry~ Number 3 is the one I need to work on.  I need to stop listening to the negative people in my life.  They weigh me down.

Harry - Lots of good points.  I think having a mentor is so important in this business.

I think everybody thinks we earn easy money.  No Way!  It is the toughest job I've ever had.  Maybe I shouldn't say toughest, but certainly the most challenging.

I was never under the impression that real estate would bring in easy money, but I have learned about perseverance. Just like any new business venture when you first start you really just don't know what you don't know. I enjoyed your list. I think numbers 4 and 7 are key. This is an ever changing industry and we must keep up to be the best. And number 7 because I think agents should learn from experienced advisors when they start in the business.

Excellent post.  Proscratination is a deadly thing for any industry.  Good feature.

Harry, and that is why 80% of the people never make it in this business. #1 is key. If you're not a self-starter, you need to get a 'real' job!

I am often surprised when I meet a buyer or seller who think I am an employee of the broker. It's hard to make them understand I don't get paid if they don't buy or sell.

Very good tips. Like most other sectors of the economy, it is still very largely about customer service (perhaps even more so now than ever).

It seems that success in this business is so dependent upon our attitude. We just seem to go further with the right attitude.
