Once folks know the kind of efficiencies they need or want to do, its time to find the right professional or professionals to put their plan to work. For some folks the prospect of picking the right contractor sure can seem overwhelming. Here are some simple tips which I give to folks to help them to feel more confident with making the right choice of hiring a contractor or in some cases contractors.

Energy Upgrading How do I go about finding the right Contractor, if you are considering a Renewable Energy System to your home, you'll want to be sure to begin by increasing your home's efficiency and reducing your overall energy consumption in your home just as much as you can. By lowering your energy use will help you to be able to reduce the size and cost of your home's Renewable Energy System that you'll need to have installed.

You'll for sure want to look for a contractor which is a professional, someone that feel you can trust to actually do a good job and that you feel comfortable having come into and around your home. Asking the following questions can help you with identifying the right contractor for you.

  • How much experience does the company have with this specific kind of project?

  • How long have has the company been in business?

  • Is the company Insured, and exactly what does the Insurance cover?

  • Exactly how does the company handle permitting and making sure they meet codes (is applicable)?

  • Exactly what types of warranties does the company offer?

  • Does the company perform regular maintenance?

  • What kind of payment options does the company offer, if any?

  • You'll want to be sure to ask the contractor how they will ensure that the work is compliant with any incentive program requirements you might be qualify for?

Energy Upgrading How do I go about finding the right Contractor, here's another important peace of the puzzle. Comparing bids to find the best fit for you and your energy efficient project. Here you'll sure want to remember that the cheapest bid sure is not always the best one to go with. The following procedures can help you discover the contractor that offers you both a fair price and to help you have peace of mind.

  • You'll sure want to get quotes from more than one company, and you'll want to make sure the quotes include and Certification information.

  • You'll want all bids in writing and be sure to confirm that all bids do cove the same work.

  • Be sure to get references and thoroughly check all the references.

  • You'll sure want to make sure that the company has relevant Licenses and / or Certifications. Here in New Hampshire Home Builders and Home Contractors do not have to have a License.

Be sure to check for any and all consumer complaints, investigations, pending active judgments or liens against the company or individual. You can do this by checking with the local Consumer Protection Office, State Contractor Licensing Board (Except here in New Hampshire seeing that Home Builders and Home Contractors do not have to have a License). Checking with the Better Business Bureau is also a good place to check with. But you'll need to remember unless someone has put in a written complaint, the Better Business Bureau will not have and info.
