Jump on the Bandwagon of Social Media! If You Haven't, NOW is The Time

Social Media technology is the tough nut that everyone is trying to crack. There are so many new technologies rising to today’s media surface that it’s difficult to keep track! More so than this, many companies are struggling with how they’re approaching marketing their business and what will work for them. Trial and error is usually the best way to learn anything in the industry, but social networking and marketing is a whole different beast because it’s difficult to know where to begin.

I was reading an article in The Costco Connection titled “New Age Marketing: Developing a Web-based strategy for success” and it offered some fantastic advice on where to begin and how to manage the social media world we are all a part of.

Step 1: Offer Info to the Consumers

Just as marketing has always been, when you market your business online you are not just marketing the business, you’re marketing yourself, the brand and the clients who you represent. Those who have yet to participate in online marketing are missing out on a lot of business. Everyone goes to the internet when they’re searching for anything. Here is a really fascinating statistic that caught my attention: “According to the 2010 Search Engine Results Page Insights Study, more than three-quarters of respondents search online to learn more about a product or service after seeing an ad elsewhere, 79 percent of respondents favor natural (versus paid) search results and 76 percent gather information through online searches before purchasing form a store or catalog.” The internet is your opportunity to be the educator! After all, no one knows your business better than you do. The more information you put out into cyber-land the more information is available to people who are potentially interested in your product or service.

Step 2: Focus on “Findability”

To understand how to make information easily accessible you must first understand how search engines function and how you can use this to your advantage. Search engines are mainly based on keywords and phrases. So when you’re building your website and blog sites use thesekey phrases! As with my company we offer hard money and private money loans based on equity in the state of California. You will find this phrasing in many of my blogs, advertisements and on my website because when people are searching for “loan in California” I will be one of the resulting finds.

Step 3: Content is King

When it comes to marketing and advertising your content must be up to date, easy to read, and useful. “Good content attracts links because it answers questions. You give value that encourages others to link to you. This leads increased website popularity, search rankings and positive brand exposure”. Another great method to use that many people are beginning to utilize is blogging. Those of you out there who are hesitant to begin blogging and putting more information out there, you gotta get started on this! These are easy to update, easy to build and easy to post. “Instead of waiting for people to find [you] befriend other bloggers in [your] industry.” Reach out to bloggers, insert yourself in web conversation surrounding blogs and learn what works before you try blogging to figure out what words specifically for you. 

A fantastic method of getting information and your brand name out there is online videos. Creating a YouTube channel is simple as is posting videos. Videos on YouTube and videos on your website entices the senses and is a great way to provide information and give your potential clients a good idea of the “feel” or “vibe” of your company.

Step 4: Tap into Social Media

This is the most essential! Having good information is one thing, but making all of it available in multiple places is another. Make it your priority to be omnipotent in the networking world. Be up to date on what’s happening with Facebook, ActiveRain, LinkedIn, Blogger, Stumble, Tumblr etc. The more you know about these sites and make yourself present to these sites the more returns you will see. The statistics on new reaches, leads and clients after you begin your social networking will go through the roof, I can guarantee it.

Give it a try! The worst thing that can happen is that you’ll spend some time  (well spent in my opinion) getting yourself informed on how this stuff actually works.  I can’t tell you how many webinars I’ve watched, articles I’ve read and blogs I’ve written to keep the marketing of our business on track and it all works and is well worth the effort.  Quite honestly, it’s increased so much that I hired a Marketing Director who I closely work with to keep everything going!

My strongest advice I can give you at the end of the day is to look at the Statistics. The numbers will dictate how many people are viewing your site, looking at your videos, clicking on your ads, calling into your office from your marketing, etc. It’s beyond important for you to keep track of how well  you’re doing. In today’s technological world, social networking and marketing is the key, so jump on the bandwagon!

To be honest it's suggested that you delegate your social networking and research on future avenues. It's great staying active on these websites but as busy as we are in this business sometimes you need to delegate the tasks you can't get to on a daily basis.
