SPCA Suncoast Invites You to a Pet Foster Training Opportunity

Have you ever wanted to foster puppies or kittiens? Sometimes the shelter has too many Pet Fosteringanimals to house them comfortably. Since it is a “no kill” shelter, they have to find other places for the many pets that are being turned in. Or, maybe the pet needs socializing with other pet or people. Some come to us as very shy animals and we need them to become “people” pets.

The SPCA Suncoast in New Port Richey is having a Pet FosteringFoster Training Session. You will see what is needed and if you have the right stuff to be a foster parent for a pet. This class is Sunday, June 10th at 2pm at the shelter.

Foster parents are provided with all the food, bedding and medications the pet may need; and you get to choose your foster pet. Pet foster parents are very special people.

Invitation from the SPCA Suncoast:
Foster parents are a vital part of the SPCA Suncoast team.

Our foster parents enable us to take in and care for pets who are too young to have spay/neuter surgery or who have other special needs that require a home environment.

Foster parents receive special training and all of the foster animals needs are supplied including medications, food, bedding, etc. Foster parents may choose what pets they take in depending on their schedule and preferences.

Without our foster parents we would have to turn away many homeless pets.

PLEASE RSVP TO DIANA BY Thursday June 7th at djerome64@gmail.com

Good morning Toni. Fostering a dog or cat is so important everywhere. Fortuneately you are associated with a no kill shelter. In my area many wonderful animals are killed because there is no room at the inn. My rescue group fosters all our pets but space is limited and we can always use more people to help us help the animals. Great post!

Good morning Toni -

I guess I wasn't aware we could be foster parents for pets. Good to know. We may check into this and see if the program is available here. I would think so with so many animals in need and the shelters running over. Thanks for the heads up and have a great day!

Toni- what a great program.  We need to do more to support our no-kill shelters.  My neighbor has a cute little dog she's fostering, but I have a feeling this one may around to stay!

Toni: That's so nice of you to get the word out!  We have a rescue dog at home- a Puggle named Beau.  He is the most wonderful pet.  We've had him 3 years now and he's a treasured member of the family.  Good luck to all the animals- Thanks for sharing!  :)

Toni,

What a great program. I can't recall ever seeing anything like that. If we have it around here, it's pretty well hidden.

Sheila - I'm so sorry to hear that.

John - I'm sure they have them at one of the rescues.

Kathy - that does happen to foster parents - a lot!

Andrew - glad to hear you have a rescue! There are so many that need homes. I'm assuming he's a pug???

Rich - you may have it but they may not have someone who can get the word out (it might take an AR person who blogs).

Toni,

I love this idea, however, we have a way of getting attached to a potential pet, and we would be so sad to give it up, which means we would not make good foster parents.  I think this is a worthwhle program and I love the concept of it.  Cesar Millan did it with dogs who needed training at a women's prison and it changed these women's lives...I cried buckets watching the show.  A

Toni: A great opportunity to see if the new puppy/kitten is a good fit with the rest of the family.

Howdy and evening Toni

Toni my friend, being a Pet Foster Parent sure is an outstanding and enjoyable experience. The Pets being Fostered sure do appreciate being able to have a home to enjoy being a part of. I sure do hope that many folks will take the opportunity to take the Pet Foster Training and become a Pet Foster Parent.

Have a good one

Alexandra - that happens to a lot of folks. Pet foster parents are special in that way and know they won't be keeping the pet. I can't do it either so I understand. But one of my board members does it and she can handle the attachment/detachment thing well.

Anita - usually it's to socialize the animal to family life but often it does happen that they stay.

Kristin - I loved yours and liked the idea. Will bring it to our board.

Dale - I hope so too! thanks.
