Lions and Tigers and Bears… Oh my!

Big Cat Habitat and Animal Sanctuary in Sarasota, Florida is a non-profit safe haven for big cats, bears, and other animals in need. The Big Cat Habitat was founded by Kay Rosaire who has more than 30 years of experience working with and caring for exotic animals. Her goal is to educate the public by fostering appreciation for animals and stressing the importance of habitat preservation.  This is such a fabulous place to visit because the animals are so well cared for and living in wonderfully designed quarters.  I never realized how many animals are cared for here and the mini-circus shows they present are very well done.  Once you are inside the gates you are able to view the bears in and out of the water, tigers, lions, goats, birds, ostriches and sometimes even a cub or other newborn.  The community supports this fabulous refuge with money and volunteers   while businesses like grocery stores donate their meats rather than throwing them away as they near their shelf life.  The family run facility is an example of giving back with love and care and we are fortunate to have such a wonderful place so near to us.

For more information please go to this website, http://bigcathabitat.org/ and when you come to Sarasota make it a point to visit this great place.

Thanks for stopping by, Jon.  It is all I can do to keep from squeezing through the bars and giving them a big hug.  I know, bad idea but they just seem so cuddly.

Marnie, while I admire big cats..."cuddly" is one thought that has never entered my mind. It's really great being able to see these beautiful animals up close and personal, but I'm always torn between seeing them and thinking they should be in the wild not in a cage.

Nick, I agree but these are cats that have already been in zoos or private ownership and now have no place to live out the rest of their lives other than this habitat.  If there were a way to whisk every captured animal to a safe environment without bars I would be the first to champion it but it seems as if their natural habitats are more dangerous for them now than this kind.

Good morning Marnie. So very nice to know there is a sanctuary for the lost and forgotten big guys.  Terrific information.

Marnie, the next time I get to Florida I would love to visit this sanctuary.  That is a wonderful photo of a beautiful big cat.
