For today’s restaurant review, we visited a relatively new spot: Wanta Thai, which opened at the end of 2011. Although Wanta Thai has a Redmond address, it’s just up the street from our office here in Bellevue—close enough for a quick lunch outing.
We ordered the pad woon sen with chicken (stir-fried meat, glass noodles, egg, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, cabbage, and bean sprouts), the yum nuah (sliced beef with mint leaves, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, chili, and lime dressing over salad greens), and the chicken red curry (spicy red curry paste with coconut milk, bamboo strips, fresh basil leaves, and red bell peppers). The red curry came as a lunch special, with side portions of Pad Thai and a choice of white or brown rice.
The food was fresh and flavorful, and the portions generous and reasonably priced. We’ll return soon to try more items. We’ve heard good things about the B.K.K. Bomb (stir-fried sliced beef, zucchini, onions, carrots, celery, and Thai hot basil with house curry paste) and the pad puk with tofu (stir-fried vegetable medley with housemade sauce). The Emerald Fried Rice (fried rice with your choice of meat, green curry paste, peas, green beans, and kaffir lime leaves), E. Sarn Platter (papaya salad, BBQ chicken, sticky rice, and sweet chili sauce), and crispy herbal chicken (breaded chicken stir-fried in herbal lemongrass sauce and topped with crispy basil leaves) all sound delicious as well.
We took our food to go, but next time we’ll eat at the restaurant—it’s cute, clean, and has plenty of seating.
Wanta Thai is located at 15163 NE 24th St. Redmond, WA 98052. (Phone: 425-644-6899; website: http://www.wantathai.com/)
