Gaithersburg HOAs Invited to Apply for Improvement Matching Grants

The City of Gaithersburg is now accepting applications for funding under the Frederick J. Felton Neighborhood Matching Grant Program.  The program provides an incentive for neighborhood organizations to improve their communities by awarding dollar-for-dollar matching grants of up to $5,000.  $60,000 is budgeted for this program in Fiscal Year 2013.

Neighborhood groups and associations have used these funds for such things as sidewalk enhancement, lighting upgrades, signage, fence replacement, parking lot enhancements, community block parties, and even neighborhood birdhouses.

Application forms are available below.  The deadline to apply is Sunday, July 15, 2012.

For more information on the program, please contact Monica Sanchez in the City Manager’s Office at 301-258-6310.

Roy- I love the idea of neighborhoods getting grants to help improve their communities.  With short sales and foreclosures and just tough economic conditions it has been hard on HOA's to maintain a budget for improvements and maintenance.

Roy, that's a GREAT idea.  I wonder why some more cities don't do something like this?  It would really help home values out.   But, it seems like Gaithersburg is ahead of the curve on so many great ideas.  You live and sell real estate in a wonderful area, that's for sure.

Hi Roy, This is a great grant program and it really does help those that apply for the grants to make enhancements and improvements that go beyond their reserves.

Roy, Gaithersburg really does "get it" - giving a little back helps so much.  I hope more communities read this and realize that tax dollars can be really well spent in ways like this.

Roy, now that's good news! Today I heard CA is closing 15 parks because the state can no longer afford to keep them up. What's next, libraries, zoos, senior citizen programs?

Thanks for sharing the good news in your corner of the world.
