KIPS BAY DECORATOR SHOW HOUSE MEETS THE UPPER WEST SIDE - NEW YORK NY

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Fresh Eyes For Your Home

For the first time in 40 years, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House is taking place on the Upper West Side, at The Aldyn, 60 Riverside Boulevard. A Show House has been created in each of the two penthouses, featuring 12,000 square feet of glamour, magic and inspiration.  The Hudson River views, terraces with private pools and extraordinary plantings are just spectacular.

This 40th Anniversary of the Show House is a banner year for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.  The Show House helps support 12,000 talented young people in NYC who need a safe haven for mentoring opportunities, making lasting friendships and learning life skills.  Throughout the past 39 years, The Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club has challenged designers to test their boundaries and 2012 is no exception.

What struck me most about the each space was the designers' use of color and texture.  Wallpaper featured significantly in each space with grasscloths adding warmth and texture in many of the rooms.  One room in particular, called The Cabana, designed by Scott Sanders, was a guest room that combined whimsy, function and just plain fun.The Cabana  In contrast, a Gentlemen's Study by David Scott Interiors also used grasscloth for warmth and sophistication. A Gentlemen's Study

It was a great day, the weather was gorgeous overlooking the Hudson and frankly, we were tempted to jump into those private pools but we forgot to bring a change of clothing.  Oh Well...

The Kips Bay Decorator Show House runs through June 14, so if you are in the area, try to make some time.

There's a show house in my area every year too...I really enjoy visiting.  Each year I've left with an idea or two to use in my own home.

Joanna- I love this and thank you so much for sharing this.  What better organization than to support the Kips Bay Boys and Girl's Club.    Our friends just rebuilt their home after a fire and the decorator put wallpaper on one of the walls in the dining room.  It totally makes the room.

Hi Sharon, I love going to the showhouses and Kips Bay is probably the most famous.

Kathy, so glad that you know about the Kips Bay Boys and Girl's Club-they do great work.  Wallpaper can really make a difference.

Hi Kristine, try to make it if you can because it is quite different this year.

Joanna. I hope you scooped up a book full of ideas. It is fun to take a thorough look at what decorators are doing - what is attractive and what are the 'new' ideas.

Absolutely Val, although I must say that most of the new ideas were in the wall treatments and rugs and the outdoor spaces.  Lots of interesting color combos however.

Hi Joanna ~ Isn't it fun to find inspiration in those great show homes?  I've always loved the texture of grasscloth and believe that some of them are timeless, classic style.
