Free Entry to Maine Parks and Historic Sites This Sunday!

This Sunday, June 17, the
Maine Department of Conversation, Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands, is holding Maine Resident’s Day - at day where, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM all vehicles with Maine license plates have FREE ADMISSION to all State Parks and Historic Sites.*

Maine Resident's Day

I don’t think it is a coincidence that this Sunday’s event is being held on FATHER’S DAY.  What better way to spend the day with your Dad than to head out to a
Maine State Park or Maine Historic Site?

The
Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands has a great new web search tool to easily find information about any one of Maine’s State Parks and Historic Sites.  This web tool (called Find Parks and Lands) allows you to search for sites by site name, towns, counties, activities, and even by “single gas-tank trips.”   Intrigued by that particular search option I tested it out by choosing “Augusta”, and searching within 25 miles - up popped 5 options:  Colburn House State Historic Site, Damariscotta Lake State Park, Fort Halifax State Historic Site (not sure why this one popped up...Bangor is more than 25 miles from Augusta!!!), Lake St. George State Park, and Peacock Beach State Park.  The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands website also has an Events Calendar where you can search by month and/or location and see great upcoming events (like the Elton John Tribute Band Concert on July 7 at Fort Knox State Park.)

There are
41 State Parks in Maine and 17 Historic Sites, not to mention 30 Public Land Reserved Sites and 10 Multi-Use Rail Trails!  (I counted.)  With so many choices, this should be a fantastic FATHER’S DAY!

So head on out to a Maine State Park or Historic Site this Sunday and see some Maine for
FREE!

Sounds like a great way to get out and explore the parks for Fathers Day.  Have a good weekend.

That's pretty cool Lisa that Maine is allowing free admission to their parks and historic areas for those who have Maine license plates.  You are right, Father's Day is a terrific time to spend at the various historical sites in Maine.
