The EPA - Environmental Protection Agency - is one of the top, if not number one - job killers, rgulation pushing, and taxation agencies in our country. It way surpasses Congress in authority.
The EPA is the one that shut down all but a few small incandescent light bulb manufacturers and sent the rest out of the country to make those ridiculous and hazardous CFLs. They killed private sector US jobs. They have stopped the sale and phase out of all incandescent bulbs except for 3-ways. They are dictating what we, in a supposedly free market economy, can use.
The EPA is the one who severely overstepped what Congress gave them the authority to do in 1992 with respect to preventing airborne lead poisoning among susceptable people. Based on 100,000 individuals (and there could considerably more than this) @ $300 for a 5-year license, not counting qualifying companies, the EPA has generated in excess of $30 million for doing nothing but requiring that any contractor dealing with nearly all 1977 or earlier homes that might disturb 6 square feet of interior space (wallboard, plaster, cainets, molding, windows, doors, flooring, etc) be registered. It's 20 square feet for the exterior. Then there's the fines of up to $32,500 per day they can levy on top of this.
This is not just a contractor issue. Anyone remodeling their homes can expect to incur several hundred dollars to cover the compliance, and if a registered contractor is not used and a homeowner is turned in by their neighbor, they are subject to the fines also.
The EPA is attempting to tax, regulate, and manipulate energy use and pricing (coal, gas, oil, wind, solar, nuclear) as a backdoor cap and trade - a House passed measure but a Senate stalled one that doen't exist as law.
The EPA needs to be put on an extreme diet. It is excessively obese on power and our tax dollars and fees and only getting bigger.
