The first man is "Skinny" Lightle, owner of the station.  Can't i.d. the other man.   Interesting that "Skinny" doesn't have on his signature leather bow tie....but then, he isn't wearing a uniform thingee like he did when he wore the bowtie.

THANK YOU, James Witlow.  Now:  tell us why you bought the picture.

That was very generous indeed of Mr. Witlow to enlarge those people. Anita has come through again with a ID of station owner. Those objects in the window are interesting. Looks like they may be sun glasses and other sundrys.

They could be leather bow ties also.=-). Look at Anita's post time, 6:11 a.m. She did get the 4th of July early bird  worm.

Ah, now that I can see my post time of 12:14 p.m. which was really 2:14 p.m. that means Anita's post was really  8:14 a.m.

Active Rain has some screwy time stamping or I guess it's West Coast Time. For some reason, I thought ActiveRain had it's roots in the East.

Don, those times get confusing.  Perhaps Anita's computer is like mine became.  It was giving time in 2004 which is when I bought the computer.  I could reset it but from time to time but it would bounce back.  I finally had to buy another computer but it had been a good one.

We still need to know who the other guy is.  I do love the pictures that Mr. Whitlow sent.  They are of DONThompson quality.

Hello Folks,

The question was asked

But WHO is Mr. Whitlow and WHY did he want that picture?

In a earlier post, I share that I was from Hoxie and collect old postcards and photos.  My main interest are items from Hoxie/Walnut Ridge and the Lawrence County area.  But I also collect postcards from North Arkansas, Southern Missouri and Alvin, Texas.  I was raised and live now on the old family farm near Hoxie. In the mid sevenies, I moved to Alvin and stay there until I moved back to Hoxie in 1996.  In the late ninties, my dad's brother past away and I was looking at the old pictures that he had and some were old postcards.  One postcard was the old Hoxie High School that was being built that was taken in the final stages. My guess is that the photo was taken in Dec. 1926. The school was open for classes in Jan. 1927 and on May 9, 1927, a tornado hit Hoxie, killing two girls at the new high school and the school building had major damage.  So I started thinking to my self, If every family had one or two old postcards/photos, there would be quite a few of them around.  Most people don't want to sell or give away their family photos, but will let you scan them.  So I go around scanning old photos/postcard. I also stop in these small towns and take photos.  These small towns in Arkansas are slowly dying. I think Cotton Plant is the worst.  The old buildings which were beauiful at one time are just falling in.  Downtown Newport is the same.  Also ebay came along about that time and I go to postcards shows, so that where I get most of my cards.  Also, antiques shops and fleas markets are another good spots to find postcards. I bid on lots of items on ebay, I win alot and lose alot.  I don't get mad if I lose and I hope nobody gets mad when I win.  Yes, I use a program to bid at the last few seconds.  I set a price that I willing to pay.  There is a C. U. Williams real photo card of the Balb Knob Bank that came up on ebay in the last few days and yes I going to bid on it.

If the readers on this blog like old White County photos, I can scan some and send to Barbara.  One or two may be one of a kind.

Hope that explains a little about me.

James Whitlow

James, thanks for that excellent explanation of  card collecting.  A good thing about that is they take up little space.  I have several cards of Searcy and White County and have shared them on this blog site.  The blog folks who comment remember the good old days here just as you were remembering some of them.  I LOVE that card of the old Bald Knob bank and if you search my blogs you'll see what it looks like now!  Do scan and send the Searcy ones.

P.S.  I also like the one of McRae that has been posted for some time for $24.95!  That is just too much money!  I have never used the last few second bid to win things.  I'll have to learn how that works.
