Close It And It's Yours....Otherwise It May Be Mine Or It May Be Hers!

Why are you announcing the details of your future business?  We’re all chasing that same rabbit, and we often receive the same phone call from the same seller. Is it a way of securing that piece of business in the minds of your coworkers to announce your next appointment?

I’ve previously witnessed an agent in the office announcing that he had an appointment at a certain address.  I wasn’t sure what the point of that announcement was other than to make it known that he now assumed that everyone knew it was HIS piece of business!!  I thought that was borderline shady, at best.

There could have been several calls to our office by the same homeowner, and the agent who closes wins, as far as I’m concerned.  No one owns anything unless he/she can close it.  To stir the pot and create tension within the office by making those announcements was a slimy way of doing business and creating a question of trust of others.  That agent is no longer with us, but the memories of how people do business DO linger!!

Good morning Barbara,

Wow..I can't imagine someone announcing a listing appointment interview!! No announcing until signed and sealed!! Loose lips do sink ships..I wonder if he has learned this valuable lesson?

More than being slimy the agent was incredibly stupid.  What if another agent in the office didn't get the call but knows the seller.  Maybe the kids were in scouting together for ten years.  Stupid head just opened the door for another person.  Step right in and get a listing.  Glad they no longer work for you.  Arrogance and stupidity are not an attractive combination.

Barbara -- until it's signed -- keep it quiet as far as listings are concerned and with any sale --- until it actually closes anything can happen so I keep tight-lipped.

Barbara I have seen agents who attempt the same feat by announcing things they have not signed yet to discourage other agents. Often sellers do not realize how commission work and do call many times and speak with many different agents in the same office.

Scott..... and the purpose of that type of action is to attempt to secure that business in the minds of other agents...

Hi Corinne.... arrogance does not belong in an office..... it needs to be controlled outside of the office.... a touch of arrogance when combined with confidence works out fine but make sure you have a nice smile with it!!!  I did that and made out just fine...

People need to understand what an independent contractor is - we may be in the same office but we're not on the same team!  There seems to be a boastful braggart in every office.  That's why I work from home!
