Speechless Sunday - New Baby Grandson is Born!!!

What more can I say? The photo tells it all:) Noah was born on Thursday July 5th at 5:47 p.m. He weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz. He is very healthy and OH so beautiful. Our daughter Tirzah is doing fine along with her 3 year old son. We are so thankful for everyone's prayers and thoughts the day she went to the hospital. It is amazing how all the support was felt in the hospital room.

Katerina - what an emotional roller coaster you have had this week.  I hope Noah can provide lots of positive energy for Grandma while you wait for Uncle Sam to bring your daughter home safely.

Ted- Thank you

Now we have even more - Noah was admitted back into the hospital yesterday for jaundice. Thank the Lord that they let my daughter who is nursing Noah to be admitted with him.

Steve- Thanks!

Katerina - I am happy to suggest that, from my reading, this is common and rarely serious.  Jaundice (in newborn infants) is not a disease but rather a symptom of an elevated level of bilirubin in red blood cells.  This is normally regulated by the liver but may not be working just right in premature births or possible difficulties in breast feeding.  Often treatment is non-invasive (and not painful for Noah) and may consist of phototherapy with a blue light - usually provided at the hospital so Doctors can monitor for complications and assure that the infant is receiving adequate nutrition from breast feeding.

While my areas of expertise do not extend to the practice of medicine and a sudden return to the hospital with a newborn can be a concern for grandmothers, I find that a bit of research - while getting competent medical treatment - can be calming for all.  My experience has been that my stress levels can be reduced or managed if I can understand what is happening around me or to loved ones.  In this case, I hope it may be helpful to you and your family.

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery for Noah and smooth sailing ahead.

Hi Nestor and Katerina, congratulations to you and the family of a new ,precious grandson.

He is God's gift to the world.

It seems Ted has given you some insight into Jaundice, that was so nice of him to do.

There are a lot of amazing people on ACTIVE RAIN.

I wish you well and lots of love to Noah.

Congrats, read your post about jaundice. Hope he is getting better. We dealt with jaundice with our daughter when she was born 10 yrs ago. It can be very scary.
