Vera's - MMMGood Even without Fries and Straws

We wanted to take my niece out for burgers and Vera's was going to be closest to her hotel.  I love Vera burgers.  The company is located in Vancouver and has several outlets but only one outside of Vancouver and that is here in Ottawa.  It is located in a meat market, The Butchery, in Bells Corner.  Now, what an excellent partnership - a burger place inside a meat market!!!

Vera's hours are the same as The Butchery so we knew we had to pick her up and then get in with enough time for the meat to cook and us to eat before 6:00.  Whew - we made it out to Bells Corner in rush hour traffic with time to spare.  Vera's is in the corner of the shop and has only three tables and a counter along the window and a wall.  You go to the cooking counter, fill in the order form so that your burger (meat, chicken or vegetarian) is fixed exactly how you like it.  The little order form also includes fries and drink and really nothing else.  Imagine our surprise to learn that the shop (okay it was the end of the day) was out of fries!!!  Who runs out of potatoes?  Now Vera fries are so good and I had, of course, talked them up.  Now another little annoyance was the missing straws for the bottomless drink.  Not a big deal.

The meat is cooked while you wait.  This gives you time to wander the shop and drool over all of the prepared foods and the long long display of meats and poultry.  Well, the burgers arrived and they were so wonderful that the fries ended up being superfluous.  It is a thick juicy burger with extra fresh toppings.  We LOVED the treat and the fries were not missed (too much).

I am keeping Vera’s on my list for taking friends and relatives out for a burger.

BTW - it is a challenge to take a photo of a sign on a shiny tiles wall with lots of lights on in the store and the sun streaming in the window!  Oh yes, and on a blackberry.

Sheila:  It was so good.  Now, I normally can't entertain the thought of that much food so early in the AM but.....  Hoep you have a great day and sell that house!

Valerie- while I don't have them as much as I'd like, I love a really good burger, fries and a chocolate malt.

Kathy:  This is not even something I have monthly.  It is a tad too high in calories.

Valerie~ As wonderful as Vera's sounds, I don't know if I could eat a juicy burger and not have any fries!  The straw I could live without, but the fries!  I guess that's what happens when you go at the end of the day!

Donna:  The niece was back last night for supper and we made sure that we had ALL the right food to feed her - pasta, vodka sauce with veggies, Italian sausages, salad, ice cream and berries with chocolate sauce and hot bread and butter.  Whew.  Guess we are off the hook for a semi-complete meal.

Donna:  We say our love with food - even if the burger joint did not have fries.  You would love it here - just not during the heat waves and high humidity.
