 At her last checkup my pug tipped the scales at 9 pounds. But Lord help anyone who gets near our family without her "permission". A nine pound mass of sleeping pug turns into Kujo when someone ventures onto our lawn. Sometimes even I am scared...

 In high school one of my nerd buddies skipped a date with a pretty young lady to attend a Star Trek convention in Baton Rouge. The chance to be in the same room with "Mr. Scotty" was more important than a fleeting shot at romance. He got his autograph, and to this day he remains single...

 I've yet to see examples of such loyalty in the real estate business. Sellers will go with agents promising a higher price, and woe to the agent who stands between a buyer and FSBO.

 Perhaps we as agents are wrong to expect "pug level" loyalty from our clients. Sure, the fellow at the local Honda dealer was nice. But I drove to Shreveport to buy my minivan. Why? Because Shreveport offered a lower price! So much for my loyalty!

 At the end of the day prospects act in a manner that best meets their needs. Once an agent (or any sales person) understands this simple fact life becomes easier.

 Provide high level service, offer value to those you work with, and answer that phone when it rings! And when that buyer prospect purchases a FSBO without you, move on to the next deal. But do give the pug some extra bacon. After all, she has earned it!

Love the post Doug. Your loyal pug impressed me. I could really do with more clients like that, but I guess you're right, we all act in our own best interests. Apparently we could learn a thing or two from dogs.:)

Doug - I think the best we can do it educate our potential clients and show how we are in their best interest and realize that we're not going to finish all the deals.

Hi Doug,

The concept of client loyalty in real estate is something that is a victim of the changing times. Its the old adage of adapt or die. The younger clients are raised on internet shopping where everything is a commodity, is it any wonder that they feel they same way about an agent. They use Trulia, Zillow, and Realtor.com apps to find properties. They hop from one brokerage site to the next at the first sign of registering and have the mistaken concept that one agent is as good as the next.

Its our job to show our potential clients the benefits of working with us and how our knowledge and experience will help them. Either with cost savings, a smooth transaction or avoiding legal issues through our experience. Blogging is what our up and coming potential clients understand and its a great way to show the world why they should use us.

Just my 2 cents worth.
