Five New Fun July Facts You May Not Know

By Michelle Carr Crowe, San Jose real estate agent & Silicon Valley guide

If you read my previous "Fun Facts in July" post, you know I enjoy learning, and I especially delight in discovering fun, unique facts. It’s fun for my own amusement. I like to keep a few “handy” as icebreakers when meeting someone new, such as at a the recent Tony Robbins “Unleash the Power Within” workshop in San Jose, Keller Williams Family Reunion in Austin, Texas, or even at a Cupertino, Calif. open house.

Here are five fun facts you may not know that happened in U.S.history during the month of July.

July 3 The first cultivated strawberry is displayed by Michael Kent (1806)

July 5 Baseball great Joe DiMAggio hits his first grand slam. (1937)

July 5  The bikini debuts at a Paris fashion show. (1946)

July 6 In the very first All Star Baseball game, the American League wins 5-2. (1933)

July 7 The United States annexes Hawaii. (1898)

I love Hawaii and am so glad it is part of the U.S. However, I think anyone with half a brain recognizes it was stolen from the Hawaiian ali’I (royalty). For what it’s worth, I’m sorry.

Yes it's a shame about Hawaii and there are many who would like to see it revert to the Hawaiian Kingdom, but I think that too much time has passed now and it won't happen.

Georgina, yes it's heartbreaking but I don't see any clear solution. Aloha.
