People DO Change – Debunking the Myth of Stubbornness

In case you missed Bob’s post earlier this week, I wanted to share the winners of our May contest again (see below).

In doing this contest and reading the corresponding posts from all of you, it really becomes apparent how often we shift a process or a way of thinking in order to accommodate modern technology. Even more importantly than how often it happens, is how open we are to allowing it to happen. The cliché that people don’t change doesn’t seem to exist here.

Change IS Possible

Think back to when you finally took the plunge and bought your first smart phone. It was great to always have my work email, my personal email, Internet, Facebook, Google Maps, etc. at my fingertips (not to mention the countless apps you can download and waste hours with). I came to rely on my phone for everything – no more printing out directions to a place I’d never been, or worrying about missing an important email from the boss after business hours. For agents and brokers, now you could confirm client appointments from anywhere (even when you’re out to dinner), or check details of a property listing without being in front of your computer screen. You can even take photos of a property without needing a digital camera.

At Adobe EchoSign, we feel the same way about electronic signature technology, and judging from the contest posts from a few of you, we’re not alone. Once you use it, it becomes kind-of addicting and you can’t imagine how you ever conducted business without it.

The reason we think it changes our behavior is because it forces you to rethink the entire contracting process you go through. Beth:  I guess I would like to know just why the implication here is that if you did not see the need to get a "smart phone" or other high tech tools as they came along... or not choosing to go with something like "EchoSign..." why must it be a sign of "stubbornness ?  Why can't it simply be a choice?

Probably a point of view that eventually we will change our minds towards the "better" change (that's up to interpretation). For instance, a few years ago I finally got a phone with keyboard just to communicate with a younger client that never called me back, but texted. At that point, it became my choice.
