Hey Smartie. Want to pass for a Canadian?

Say you are visiting Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver and you want to look Canadian.  Say you have perfected saying "eh?" at the end of most sentences - thus turning a statement into a question.  Okay, maybe an example will help.  "I see you like those Smarties, eh?"  Pronounce the "eh" like a hard A and with an up lilt to make is a question and you will pass. Great weather we are having, eh?

In any case, you are walking down the street and trying to look Canadian.  Sneak into a snack shop and get yourself a box of Smarties, an Eat-More candy bar and a bag of Cheezies.  No, they are not cheese curls, they are cheezies.  Made only in Canada you say, eh?  So, I suggest that you get yourself a copy of this photo on you phone so that when you go into the store (especially in Quebec where you might have a little problem adding the French accent) you can show the clerk exactly what you need.  Good luck this summer, when you come visiting.  I will be watching for those Smarties.

Valerie, Thanks for the lesson on how to fit in as one of the locals. I'm not much into that junk food though so I guess I wouldn't fit in.

Valerie~ I had no idea that you had different snack foods in Canada.  Maybe we need to exchange some "care packages", eh?

My Canadian friend brought me Smarties as a treat knowing that I love chocolate. I didn't know that you can buy them in Canada only. My friend did also mention the best ice cream ever that you can't find here  in TX.

Donna. We certainly could. I live 44 minutes from the border so can make a snack run if you have some recommendations. As if my ever expanding hips need another bag of treats.

Anna. Smarties are a British favourite but Canadians adopted those little candy treats a long time ago. I do like M&Ms (the same type of candy) but love the colours in the Smartie collection.

Hi Valerie,

With my Dutch heritage, I must admit that smarties were popular in Holland as well decades ago, but I am more a licorice person... I am happy to report that candy from many any place in the world can be found in our corner of paradise.

Peter. Salty black licorice from Holland - yummy. Glad to know that it is all available in Victoria. I am still dreaming of the move.

Valerie - Too funny!  Hey, you forgot another Canadian junk food classic...  the Mackintosh's Toffee bar - guaranteed to removed even the most solid fillings from your teeth!  Actually, I'm not sure they are originally from Canada or England, but I've always thought of them as a Canadian classic.

Hi Valerie. I bet you didn't know that Hawkins cheezies are made in Belleville Ontario. Just one more reason to visit the Quinte area.
