Elk Sighting while showing homes in Denver

On occasion wildlife wander into Denver neighborhoods and cause some excitement.      We have seen black bears looking for their next meal and mountain lions staring down the kitties.

The kitties meet up

Lately there has been many deer in the neighborhoods and rabbits are always plentiful.

Deer in the front yard

This week has been very warm with temperatures remaining in the upper 90's, so no wonder these large elk were resting in the shade!

There were many homeowners with cameras standing around taking photos.   This is not your normal neighborhood sighting!

Joan- These photos are wonderful. That's one brave cat! I think I'd scream if I saw a mountain lion on the other side of my slider. Amazing wildlife you have in Colorado!

Hi Joan,

Those are some really cool shots. We have deer coming into the yard, but never get any pictures of them.

I think the smaller "CAT" would loose in a fight. LOL

Great shots. Have a good day in Denver.

Best, Clint McKie

Hello Joan:

We have plenty of deer and wild turkey here in Sun City Texas, but a mountain lion at the back door may be going too far.

Thanks for sharing Joan!  growing up in Estes Park, saw wildlife around me all the time.  They look so complacent and tame, but they are not.  As neat as it is to see wildlife down in Denver, that shows how massively we are in a drought here in the sate and how hot is has been.  Looking at the forecast, mid 90's for the entire week will put us at about 25 straight days.  So with the heat and the immense lack of moisture, there is not vegetation for them to eat, up in the hills.  So they are heading down to where they can get food.  I know there have been a lot of Bear sightings in Boulder and Lakewood, for the same reason.  I know this is all cyclical for the world, but it can be a bit scary.  Thanks for the pics.....nature is really neat!

Good morning, Joan. I enjoy all wildlife sightings as you saw from my last blog. That mountain shot would have been a bit difficult for me. I would have been afraid to see one in my yard.

Joan, my dog would definitely be barking at these critters. We have plenty of deer that he chases out of our yard.  My husband saw a bear in our yard last year...at first he thought it was a dog until it crossed the road.  It was a cub and was caught and returned to the forest.

I know I can handle the rabbits and deer.  Heck, I think I could even play dead if a bear was nearby. . .But that Mountain Lion would make a coward outta me:-)

Joan,

Did you actually see elk while showing in Aurora?!?!?  I've seen them west in the foothills, but never that far east!

They look quite comfortable there! I had wild turkeys in my yard yesterday and thought that was cool. I think they were looking for water. It's always fun to see something different.

That mountain lion and kitty went viral in Denver - made the evening news!    The elk were in a neighborhood on the West side of Denver, but in a large populated neighborhood.
