City of San Bernardino California Filed Chapter 9 Bankruptcy
trash
The City of San Bernardino filed bankruptcy on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Just like individuals who get themselves in too much debt and can’t repay, this is what happened to the City of San Bernardino.

They will be on a pay with cash as they go basis for the next 60 days. I read recently where they may not have the cash to pay for trash removal.

What does this mean for the residents of San Bernardino?

Residents will have to find a way to get rid of their trash. There used to be a time we could take our trash to what we used to call “the dump” for free. Now that we pay trash removal services to have our trash removed, there may be a charge to take trash to the local landfill. See San Bernardino Department of Public Works website for more information.

I see the making of a great business opportunity by offering a trash removal service for San Bernardino residents. Before start-up, might be wise to check first with the City’s How to Start a Business to find out the City's requirements. Lemonade stands, like the local “dump”, aren’t free anymore.

I suspect that trash haulers from neighboring areas will provide services to residents....TRASH HAULING is a long-time union stronghold so cutting this service to residents may lighten their cash burden in the short run.

Morning Pamela what a shame that local and federal governments can't see what is so obvious to the rest of us

Wallace, most likely it's temporary (we hope), although I can't imagine being without trash service for two months! Thansk for your comment today,

James, I know, especially when trash pickup is political. Thank you for your comment.

Pamela --- ahh, you see opportunity where others see a disaster.  I love it!  On a serious note, the news articles I read about San Bernardino are a good warning sign to cities in California and across the country -- be mindful during the "good times" ---- the money may not always be there when there are economic setbacks.

Michael, so true that the good times don't always last, real estate market is up and down, like business. Thanks for your comment today,
