How Hot Is Daytona Beach?

When practically all over the country there was unbearable heat, we had just pretty regular summer temperatures. In Daytona area it is a big difference in temperature depending on where you are. The lowest temperatures are on the barrier island, which we call Beachside. In summer it is usually 3-5 degrees lower than on mainland. And this is very noticeable difference between 91F and 88F.

Yeas, it is hot in the middle of the day even on the beach. Wooden ramps can feel like a frying pan, and even sand is hot. But wait a few hours and it becomes very comfortable, and feels even cool.

And this is the difference between Daytona and Miami, or West Coast of Florida, where it feels hot and humid even in the evening.

Daytona Beach

I am no longer surprised in July or August, our hottest months, to see vacationers from South and West Coast of Florida. they are spending 3-4 hours just to get here...

Our July record high temperature for Daytona Beach was recorded in the heat wave of 1998. It was 98F. And the weather station is at the airport, which is not on the beachside, and it is hotter than beachside.

What is record high for New York City? I did not find it, but found that in 2011 it was 104F.

And how about Minnesota’s record of 114F?

I feel blessed living by the Atlantic Ocean. My guests usually say that it feels like vacationing year round. Probably, especially considering that hottest hours of the day I am in the air-conditioned office.

And I like it this way.

I personally have only been to your area once it was in late July and it was hot. My bride visited your beaches on a yearly base when living in Northern Alabama. She loved it and hopes to return with me for some fun in the Florida sun! Stay cool my friend-

Love your shot of the beaches with the cars parked on the beach.......I remember driving up and down the beach back when I was in high school..........Daytona was always a favorite goal back then.

I am afraid that climate is just too hot and volatile for me.

I believe it not volatile at all. You have unpredictable weather pattern in New York, where one day you can have over 100F nd next day 70F. In our area the climate in summer exemplary stable. You have pretty much the same temperatures, easily get used to that.

With the ocean breeze, it is never hot!

BTW, yes, the change from a buyer's market to a seller's market took many by surprise.

Sorry been to Daytona lots of times. The beach is always a little cooler everywhere. Still Blazing Saddles inland.

Barbara - yes, many people thought that it would never recover. you can tell them that it is not the first time, that it goes in cycles, and they would say "yes", but think that this time it would be all different
