Interesting place to practice.  I wonder how he got started and why.  I would think the moisture in the air would not be good for the bagpipe.

Good morning Irene. I am a huge fan of the bagpipes. That eerie wail raises goose bumps every time I hear it played.

Irene - It must seem almost magical to be in the presence of all that!  I'm enjoying it already, and I can't even hear the music!  It would be wonderful to capture it to video!

Hi John, the music is so nice to hear. The humidity this summer is very low.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Randy, the bagpipe is so nice to hear. It seems so "soft" the music as he walks the beach.

Joan, Meryl and Rebecca, it really is a joy to hear the bagpipe.

The music drifts thru the air.

I can hear it, before I can see him playing and walking by.

Hi Irene. That's actually me. I am a Paramedic Firefighter in Palm Beach County and I am also a member of the Palm Beach County Firefighters Pipes and Drums, which is a fire service pipe band that was formed in 2001, after 9/11.

The history of Bagpipes in the North American fire service dates back to the early 1900's when the Irish imigrated to the United States. Back then the Irish were heavily discrimanated against. It was not uncommon to see "NINA" signs in store front windows (Irish Need Not Apply) ... So the only jobs the Irish could get, were the dirty dangerous jobs that no one else wanted (Cops and Firemen)

The pipes you see and hear me playing, are actually Scottish Highland Pipes, but they are the pipes of choice for the Irish American fire service pipe bands. The writer up above is correct about the moisture concern. After playing on the beach, I do take great care of the pipes when I get home, cleaning the salt air moisture off them.

The Delray Beach St. Patricks Day Parade has offcially been graciuously handed over to us (The Fire Service) by Festival Management Group (The company that putes on the Delray Affair, The Garlic Fest, as well as several other events in Palm Beach County) ... We have fire service pipe bands from around the country and from around the world, come and march in the parade. Next years parade falls on Saturday March 15th. Please spread the word. The parade is  presented as a "Community Unity" event, and also a role model image for our children. (Uniformed Firefighters marching shoulder to shoulder with pride, honor, dignity, respect, tradition, patriotism, and teamwork)
