Downtown Raleigh is Buzzing With Activity

Went out to dinner in Raleigh last night and let me tell you something, Old Raleigh is a buzz with activity. Fayetteville Street, once a pedestrian only has once again been opened to traffic and restaurants and stores are popping up all along there. It’s a beautiful street with the Capitol building at one end and the concert hall at the other.

Recently it was announced that Citrix Systems would be locating their Raleigh headquarters in the middle of what is known as the warehouse district, an area of old red brick warehouses, railroad tracks and most recently new apartment buildings and restaurants. The Pit is packing them in with authentic Carolina BBQ. Taking over and renovating the Dillon Supply CO. Building. Citrix plans to recruit 340 employees in Raleigh.

Another huge boost for Raleigh was Red Hat’s decision to relocate to the former Progress Energy high rise building and move almost 1000 workers to all 19 floors. Two big investments in a city that could become the hottest city on the East Coast.

There are a bunch of new restaurants, stores and plans are for more retail and supermarkets etc all the necessary ingredients to have a thriving downtown. Beasley’s Chicken + Honey just named to the Top 50 Best New Restaurants of 2012 by Bon Appetit Magazine is a fantastic restaurant in a renovated building formerly a Piggly Wiggly, owned by Ashley Christensen a dynamic chef/restaurateur who owns Poole's Diner, Chucks and the Fox Liquor Bar.

Sono is a  sleek sushi restaurant on Fayetteville Street within walking distance from the Meymandi Concert Hall. Moore Square is home to some great new and established restaurants like Tir na Og ( plug for the Irish) and the ever popular Cafe Luna.

Raleighhas a lot going on right now and has for a while, it regularly gets put in the top ten lists of best places to......(insert something here). Living in Clayton we can be in Raleigh in 30 minutes parked (for free) most times, at a bar or restaurant or going to the Museum of Natural Sciences or the St. Patricks Day Parade wearing a T-Shirt most likely.
