Who knows you?  We’re in the real estate business, and it’s not necessarily what you know but who you know that will provide you with that extra surge in your climb to the top.  The question that should always be in the forefront is “how will I make myself known?”

We are in the business of networking.  If you are a skilled networker, you’re golden.  If you are not in the forefront within your community, your business will struggle.  We constantly hear agents referring to the real estate business as a “people business.”

The more people you meet within the course of each day will result in a greater opportunity to capture another piece of business.  Being visible in person and in the media is essential. 

Active participation in organizations and/or roaming around with your name badge on and business cards in hand will satisfy the task of meeting new people every day.  Print advertising in the form of direct mail marketing (politicians use this form of marketing) and/or newspaper ads will fulfill this form of media advertising.

Online marketing is the latest and greatest with blogging for SEO resulting in searches that will place you on the results page depending on your intensity and consistency with this task.  Blogging for business is at the top of my list, and it results in a multitude of positive outcomes.  It makes the phone ring; it gives us immediate recognition online; and it complements all of our other forms of networking. 

There’s nothing more powerful than a new acquaintance reading your latest blog post that resulted from a Google search of a topic.  The more you blog, the more improved your online presence will become and that results in “making yourself known.”  Remember, it’s not necessarily what you know but who you know that will assist you in succeeding.  Network online and offline every day and you'll notice your business changing!!!

Well said Barbara.  Networking is so important.  

I just started blogging within the last few months and I'm already seeing some results.  I recently participated in Bob Stewart's contest to write 7 hyper local blog posts.  Wouldn't you know that I landed a $2.5m deal because of one of my posts!  My client found one of my ActiveRain blogs on Google that I wrote for that contest about luxury real estate and she called me!  I now try to blog daily.  

Blogging and Google are an unbeatable combination.

Very good advice Barbara.  Expanding the folks you know will ultimately bring you more business :)!  If you don't get out there and get to know folks, then you hinder yourself as an agent :)!
