A green move - where to dispose of your stuff when you move

Check Earth911.com for information on how to ecologically dispose of items like fire extinguishers, fungicides, household cleaners, compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Usually local home furniture stores and mattress outlets will take old mattresses and discarded bed parts because the cotton, springs, foam can be recycled and given new life.

For old clothes Good will and Salvation Army are good options. According to organics.com you can use your cotton, wool, and old leather as compost.

For miscellaneous junk and items you never use consider craigslist and ebay. We recently had a 2 hour yard sale for a client who had died and got over $800 for the family.

Now more than ever, being green makes a difference.

Great info Lori.....I love the yard sale piece.  That was pretty awesome.  Also, watch for local Hazardous Household Reoundup Events held by the county.  They take in all the waste items that are not to go in the trash, such as paints, batteries, chemicals, etc.

Lori. That was quite a succesful yard sale! It does take a lot of time and effort to have a successful sale and you certainly proved it with $800 for the family. The sites are good for reference; thanks for the tip. In Arizona, we have a green charitable donation center called Stardust that takes all used building supplies and construction materials and resells or recycles those items. Not sure if they're in your area, too.
