Better Off Than 4 Years Ago?

By
Education & Training with Hoffacker Associates LLC

Each time a presidential or gubernatorial election cycle rolls around the question popularized by Ronald Reagan gets bandied about - "are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?" Incumbents want the answer to be "yes." Challengers want the answer to be "no."

On the national scene, the answer from strictly a disposable income standpoint is "no" - for everyone. The average income for everyone has dropped since the "recovery" began. This is the major reason why we aren't seeing the housing recovery we had hoped for.

Oh there is one bright spot if you happen to work for the government. Even though your average income dropped also, it dropped less than the private sector and is now 17% higher than self-employed and 22% higher than private-sector workers. Of course we know that many self-employed people have taken a forced semi-retirement due to the economic reality of underemployment.

Karl,

Romney does have a plan and it's been out there for several weeks. You can attack it or dismiss it, but it's there. :)

To Jay at post #31, I wish I could find my "like" button!  You are spot-on.  The stake of America as we have grown to know and love it is at stake with this election.

Those with blinders on, who have drunk the kool-aid, I will hold at fault if this man gets re-elected.  All bets are off if that happens.  You will not recognize this country if he gets a second term.  Karl, I'm speaking directly to you.

Speak to me as well, Virginia.  Because that pragmatic guy you call a Socialist is the better choice in my humble view.  As far as Jay's comment, he's correct in that we are all interconnected in a Global sort of system.

It's not pretend about eight years of Bush.  Hell, I like the guy and like Jeb even more, but reality is what reality is.

Jay can call names with a "Moron Vote".  I've read his stance on many things.  Speaking of a moron vote, clicking on party lines anyone, anyone?

Jason, you're on.

Wish that you and Karl would go watch Obama's America.  If you do, send me the ticket stub, and I will reimburse the price of the ticket.  My treat.

Jay -

Comment #31 - "Brains are supposed to help people think."  Well, the only plan I have seen that will turn our country around is Ron Paul's plan. Rand Paul's plan was also good, just not aggressive enough for me.

Comment #33 - Because Obama will continue to work for the best interest of the average American. Although I do not agree with his tactics, I see Obama as a better candidate than Romney. Anyway, it doesn't matter as Obama will win the election and our country will still have a debt crises that no one will address.

It's been proven that Romney's plan will not work no matter how you plug in the numbers. Ryan's plan will add to the deficit, keep the military and defense budgets bloated while tackling the entitlement programs. You need to touch all three areas: defense, medicare/medicaid and Social Security.

The bottom line is that as long as our government subscribes to the Keynesian economic model and partake in crony capitalism, we will never heal.

Right now I am vacationing in Washington DC and also visited New York and Philadelphia. It has affected me so much to see what our founding fathers went through and the course and direction our government has taken through the years. We have real issues and you have the audacity to question the intelligence of someone voting for Obama while endorsing the Republican candidate that subscribes to the same economic, foreign and government policies as Obama.

Virginia - What was Bush's reason for messing up our country? Was he pursuing his father's vision of a new world order? Before offering to buy tickets for a movie that has an asinine, ideological view point, may I suggest you watch "The Obama Deception" on youtube. It's free.

Karl, you never get off of page 1 of Sol's book.  You should be an insurrectionist for the Grand Imam!  "Laugh" but don't respond.

You never answer questions!  Why?  No answers.

When you see any "plan" coming from the Grand Imam, let me know.  He hasn't the balls.

Still, let's see your post RECOMMENDING the Grand Imam.

I know why I'll never see it - you'd end up in the corner, in a fetal position, twirling your hair, sucking your thumb and saying lalalalala so you can't hear the REAL laughing.

I can't be more serious.  Let's see it BIG BOY.

Here's his plan - tax the rich (of course) and encourage the moron vote.  Wow.

Oh, and trickle up poverty.

Virginia - If it is half as entertaining as Fahrenheit 9/11, I may just do so.

I'm still wondering if Jay's version of the "moron vote" is somebody not voting for his guy.  My version would be anybody voting strictly across party lines, but that's just me.  Seems to me a short-cut to thinking.

Jason,

The party line vote used be a matter of pride that took the guesswork out of voting. Families voting Democrat or Republican for generations. Now it means more government spending and regulations one the one hand versus less on the other, for the most part. Labels just divvy up the sides. :)

Steve - In theory, the Republican vote is for less spending.  But I think if you look at the facts/history, that is rarely a reality.

Collectively, I agree. Talk about not being able to back up what you supposedly believe in. :)

Moron vote - mentioned in today's free enterprise post.  I do not and would not vote party lines.  I vote philosophy, pure and simple.

And I never discuss my vote.  It is a private vote.

You do (discuss your vote) every comment you leave, Jay.  You aren't voting for Obama.  Means you are voting for the other guy, maybe Romney?  That, I can guarantee.  So that is not private.  That is as public as it can get.

Which is fine.  When you talk politics, you discuss your vote in some facet.  You do so strongly.  The Grand Inman will not get your vote.  That, I also guarantee.

You've already discussed your vote, as have I.  May the best lad win ... for our Country.  And no matter who wins, I'll try from my end to make this a better Country because Jason Sardi was born into it.

Jason,

The discussion was lively and varied, but the last couple of comments didn't seem to add anything to the thread. :)

I didn't subscribe to the blog so I didn't get to see if Jesus was a viable option or not. ;)

Just got back from Washington DC on a family vacation. One thing is for certain, it looks like the only area in the US that is experiencing growth is in government!

Steve, what's your thoughts on Gary Johnson?
