Where have all the flowers gone?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Residential

If you've ever wondered about the veracity of the media news that you hear, over the weekend, the mainstream media, including ABC News, believe it or not, announced the death of:

1) 82 year old astronaut Lance Armstrong

2) 82 year old astronaut Neil Young (believe it or not, this one was ABC News!)
and
3) 82 year old Louis Armstrong.

C'mon people!?  Really?  I know that Neil Young often sounds less than alive on his albums, but he's very much alive and only 66 years old, as of this writing.  Lance, who was also in the news this weekend, due to the accusations of doping and the loss of his award status, I suppose I can understand the confusion...

But Louis Armstrong... satchmo... died in 1971... at the age of 69 years old. I'm surprised they even remember his name!

This isn't really that difficult.  Where are the fact-checkers?  Where are the proof readers?  Where are the editors?  Where have all the flowers gone?

oops, sorry.... I got a little carried away there.

GEEZ!!!

Where are the publishers who have a clue????

Sad, sad, sad.

Accuracy in media is a lost art.

All in keeping with the "dumbing down of America" through the public school systems in many areas.

Hi Alan,  I'd be happy if  the media would do a little fact checking on some of the outrageous poliitical claims !

Send in the clowns, there ought to be clowns. Hard to believe that there would be any confusion in anybody's mind regarding these characters, they are all so different.

It can partly be laid at the doorstep of higher education today.  The goal of the majority of these less than prestigeous diploma mills is to churn people and money through the system and push them out the back end.  They could care less if most people can read, write or have a critical thought!  After all if people were able to think today the country and the world for that matter might not be in the situation its in.

She-who-says-"HA!" - accuracy is, indeed, a lost art.

Bill - ain't that the trooth?

Malcolm - oh... there are clowns, allright.

Jeanne and Ralph - I'm not sure I'd lay this at the doorstep of higher education

SO true ALan - we were listening to the news the other week, and since the news reporters just seemingly read the script (and seemingly cannot ad lib) read incorrect info that was so obviously wrong... but it kept us laughing for a few minutes..

Alan,

Long time passing, Ahhh I do miss Louis.  The true kings and classics such as these plus the actual classical viewpoint of reporting the truth and making sure it is the truth.  It is good to reminisce and remember the times past when we knew right from wrong and there was actually a clear cut difference instead of all the gray areas that exist now.

Gay - you gotta get your "infotainment" somewhere, don't ya?

Steve - well aware of that lyric.

Brenda - don't know when the retraction came, if at all.

Larry - those of us who remember Louis (that's Looey, to you uninitiated) do miss him.  But I found that many of the newbies, who didn't know Louis have been introduced to him, since "What a wonderful world" has been making the airwaves.

What!? When did Satchmo go to the moon? Besides, Audrey Heburn wrote Moon River, not Lance Armstrong. Giant steps are what you take, walking on the moon. Danged confusing, that's what I say.

Richard - that would just be sad.

Tim - dang confusing, indeed.  I think Johnny Mercer will be surprised to learn about Audry, but Sting... now he's confusing, what with that tantric stuff, and all.

Alan, I'm with Lenn. It is truly a sad state we live in when news media cannot even get the names of the deceased correct.
