Delaware's Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program assists property owners in the preservation of historic buildings and encourages reinvestment in existing communities by providing Delaware income-tax credits for the substantial rehabilitation of National Register of Historic Places-listed properties. The program provides for a reduction in state income tax equal to a percentage of the monies expended in rehabilitating historic properties. For additional information on the program, contact Joan Larrivee, manager, Delaware Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program at 302-736-7400 or joan.larrivee@state.de.us.

mantel at cornucopiaWho can use the credits?  Here is a perfect opportunity--Cornucopia is on the National Register of Historic Places and is currently for sale in the Middletown, Delaware area. It is on 20 acres, and does require restoration. You can see the property details at Cornucopia. I visited this property recently, and took the picture on the left. If you are interested in seeing this property, let me know and I can arrange a showing or send you more pictures.

The Henry Webster House (right) is another possibility for using tax credits, Although built c. 1770, it was given a Colonial Revival update in the 1930's.  We have spoken to the State, Henry Webster Houseand there is a good possibility it might be eligible for listing on the National Register. It would be up to the new owners to apply for the program. Details on this historic home are here.
