I am a huge devotee to IKONic marketing. For those of you unfamiliar, "I Know One Name" marketing is based on the fact that the vast majority of people on the street can, at best, come up with one name for any given profession. So, are you the IKON in your market?
I focus my marketing on the incredible Del Webb Sun City Huntley. This active-adult, 55+ community is the premier of community of its kind in the mid-west. With nearly 5,800 homes, 58 models, and prices from $150,000 - over $500,000 it provides something for nearly everyone.
As a resident, I take full advantage of my own 174 home "neighborhood" inside Sun City. I mail Just Listed and Just Sold postcards - I prefer the jumbo laminated versions for greatest impact. I sit on my neighborhood's steering commitee as treasurer. I walk my dog and talk to my neighbors who always ask how the market is doing. Obviously, they spend too much time caught in the spin of the national media's constant doom and gloom! I'm social and buisiness all in one. My life is my work.
So, I'd say I'm the IKON of at least my small chunk of Del Webb Sun City Huntley. I'm working on some of the other neighborhoods where I have or have had listings. Driving around with my name on the side of my car and having mattcrow.com on vitually every piece of clothing I wear helps too.
I also spend a lot of time and energy writing cards to people. I believe that is an art that has been lost on a great many people. Everybody enjoys getting a handwritten note telling them that someone else is thinking about them! This is a best business practice and I always encourage professionals to take the time and make the effort to do the unexpected.
