Kid's just being Kid's!

I remember growing up (not that it was all that long ago), as a child in New Hampshire.  I had so much fun during the winter months.  You see, kids in the New England, and of course other parts of the U.S. that receive snow like we do, are offered a different prospective on winter.  We had opportunities to be kids!  We could go out and play in the snow on SNOW DAYS!  Make snow forts, build a snow man, and  just plain have fun.

You see, I was reminded of this fun while driving my son to hockey practice the other day.  There is one house, in Somersworth New Hampshire that has two teenage children that live in.  Well, for the past two years that I know of, they have built the biggest snow fort that I have seen in a long time.  This year, the thing must be at least 20 feet tall!  They were interviewed on Fox t.v. last night, (good for them!) and emphasised how they just wanted to have some fun.  They spent thier entire winter vacation building this snow fort, together, brother and sister.  If they were my children, I don't think I could have been any happier with them.  You know, it's too often I see children parked in front of a t.v., or a gameboy, or on their cell phone, not enjoying what mother nature has given us to play with!
What's my point to all of this?  I don't know!  Maybe we should all be reminded to just go out there and have some fun.  No matter where you live.  Put down the cell phone, turn off the t.v. and computer, and do something constructive with what mother nature gave us.
I think I might even have to go sledding with my son tomorrow!

Although I am not a fan of the cold - or snow - I couldn't agree with you more about kids' need to get out of the house and away from technological gadgets.

Bill just stumbled upon your blog and website.  I lived in various places in Strafford county for a number of years until I moved back to California at the end of 1999.  My husband and I owned a house on Buffumsville Rd and saw there are a couple of homes for currently for sale.  Your snow photos are fun, but can't say that I miss the cold or the ice.

What a small world Carolyn.  I grew up on First Street and at the time I was a paperboy for Depot Road and Buffumsville Road!

Bill, you probably delivered my paper then.  We had a big deck off the back of the house that overlooked the river and I do miss the view.  It looks like there are a lot of homes for sale in Dover and Somersworth, but prices are certainly still a lot higher than when I lived there.  Hope you are enjoying the snow.

Bill Thats awesome.  I grew up in Ma and loved sledding and building snow Things!  Now that I am older I really love the warm winters in Florida though.  Go sledding and have fun!!  Just be a kid again.
