There's no denying it.  Being a grandparent is unbelievably cool.

I knew pContact my Grandpa, Gene Mundt, for Mortgage Answers & Service!rior to our grandbabies entering our lives, that Marilyn and I were going to enjoy grandparenting.  But I never fathomed just how much  we would enjoy it!  It's really something you have to experience for yourself to fully comprehend.

I've been surprised by a few things during our grandparenting journey ... like just how much we still worry.  We had thought incorrectly (and somewhat naively) that the days of heavy duty worrying were behind us.  You know ... the  "you can send them home" theory?  Oh man, were we wrong!  Concerns and worry are still there in full force.  And that worry didn't just start at each baby's birth.  It started prior to it, during our daughter-in-laws' pregnancies.

One of the things my wife and I worried about while each daughter-in-law was pregnant, was their driving.  We had friends that had told us their girls had abandoned seatbelts when their tummies got big. Especially for one daughter-in-law, wearing seatbelts got pretty uncomfortable.  But thankfully, both of our girls continued to wear their belts during their entire pregnancies, protecting themselves and our unborn grandchildren.

As each girl's pregnancy progressed, attention was turned towards child car safety seatsWhich one was best .. safest?  Which should we buy?  Car seats had become popular around the time we had our oldest son (the late 70's).  But  laws that governed usage  oCall my Grandpa, Gene Mundt, for Mortgage Answers & Service!f child safety seats still didn't exist at that time and you'd often see kids bouncing around the inside of cars or sitting on their parent's lap.

Thankfully, those days are behind us.  From pregnancy ... through infancy ... all the way to adulthood, kids are now protected by either child safety seat laws or seatbelt laws.  So we researched ... and poured over the  ConsumerReports ratings  guide for info and ideas.

But it seems that even after you do all the research and care of buying  a well-rated child safety seat, dangers can still exist.  I recently read a startling statistic.  Almost a full  80% of parents or caregivers  are misusing their child safety seats. Or the seats are installed improperly!

Contact me today ... I'll deliver a successful mortgage Closing for you!     Learning how to install and use the child safety seat your little loved one will ride in is vitally important.  That is exactly why the  Child Safety Seat Event being hosted by the Wheaton Fire and Police Departments  this September (and others like it) is so important to attend.

The  Child Safety Seat Event being hosted by the  Wheaton Fire  and  Wheaton Police  Departments will be held:

Saturday, September 22nd
10 am to 2 pm
Wheaton Fire Department
                             Wheaton, IL

Certified child passenger safety technicians  will be in attendance to help educate about the importance of child safety seats and the laws that govern us.  They will also inspect attendees own child safety seats ... and then  instruct parents and caregivers as to the correct installation of their child safety seats in their own vehicles.

So if you are interested in learning how to safely and correctly install and use YOUR child safety seat ... please attend this  FREE  event with your child safety seat(s), your child, and the vehicle you will be using the seat(s) within.

This Event, and others like it, can help provide peace of mind to parents, grandparents, and caregivers regarding their little loved ones' lives and safety.  If in the Chicagoland region, think about attending.  And then pass information about this  Event on to everyone you know that  transports children.

Hello Gene --- these types of events are great and such an asset to the new parents(and grandparents).  It seems as if it should be obvious how to install/use a child safety seat correctly but there's actually a lot more to the process.  Here, the California Highway Patrol(CHP) has had many of these "clinics" and they always seem well-attended with lots of rave reviews.  I hope the same goes for the event in Wheaton on Saturday, September 22.

Gene, this is a great topic to cover. I've seen so many people take short cuts and put car seats in wrong. Especially if you're continuously moving the seat from one car to another.

Gene, I totally agree with that 80% figure of adults misusing child seats...just as a side note I used to live in Wheaton, I also taught Aikido at the only rec center at the time.

Gene I love the way you bring a grandparents love and 'worry' into this story.  Such important information to spread to everyone - everywhere. Take care of our precious cargo - our children!

Michael:  I agree.  You'd think using the car seats would be easy.  Especially when you have a child in your arms, they are not!  This event is free, as many of them are.  Why not be sure you're installing the seats correctly?  Be sure ... attend.   Glad to hear that CHPs has it under control out your way ...

Eric:  I'm sure there are alot guilty of that very thing.  They certainly aren't as easily installed and used as the ones we used when our boys were little.  But certainly FAR safer.  I'll take a bit more complicated, and safe, anyday ...

Nick:  Great community!  Great services ... great housing ... it has it all!  And Aikido?  I don't think I'll argue with you ... ever!

Anna:  Thanks!  Silly us though ... thinking we'd somehow not worry??  Jeesh ... almost laughable.  And they are precious to us.  We're just enjoying every second ...

A very worthwhile event that all parents who use child safety seats should attend.

Grandparents can come in handy with a gift of a second child safety seat so that the parents don't have to move them from car to car.  I'll bet you have seats for your own car, don't you?  I've heard these things are tricky to install and I'm glad there are classes available.

There is nothing like grand kids. I told my wife one day, that if I knew she was going to have this much fun, I would have gotten her one a long time ago.

Agreed, Gabe!

Mona:  You're right ... these little contraptions can be costly, especially if you hope to have one for multiple vehicles.  The infant carriers typically come with a "base", that you buy seperately.  Guess what we asked for last Christmas?  Yep ... a base to keep in our car.  Made life so much handier and easier.

Joe:  Totally understand!  We're having a riot with our two!

Great piece on the child safety seats, but even better about being a grandparent.  Your pride and love shows through while reading this post.  That has to be one of the greatest feelings Gene.  Love that you shared this story with us.  Mickey has 10 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren...........and feels the same way you do about every one of them.  She always said that she was happiest when all of her 7 kids lived at home and she knew when she saw us every day that we were okay.  She hated being an empty nester and took in kids to watch.

Roger:  Thank you ... I hate bore anyone by going on and on about my grandkids.  This was a sneaky way of getting them into the story, but provide good info too.  Don't tell anyone I did that, will ya?  Mickey and my Marilyn would get alone well, as Marilyn still just beams and gets all excited when our boys call or come over.  Giddy!  God bless 'em ...

No need to sneak them into a post Gene, you're a proud Grandpa, some day just write a post about them and how much joy they bring you and your wife.  Not everything has to be business............most of my posts aren't, just personal day to day stuff.  Try it, I know I'd enjoy reading them.

Glad they have this event as I've heard rumors that nearly 50% of kids are put into seats that are not hooked up properly for safety.  Takes just a few minutes to learn to do it right.
