AT&T Park, SF

Most of us here in San Francisco know that AT&T Park is home to the exciting SF Giants. But this coming Saturday evening it will be home to --- the Opera!

San Francisco Opera and the San Francisco Giants invite you to enjoy Opera at the Ballpark on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 8pm for a FREE performance of Verdi's Rigoletto, simulcast live from the War Memorial Opera House.

SF Opera at the ParkBring your blanket, your box dinners, or buy one there. Dress in layers and be prepared to enjoy an evening of fabulous music, exquisite costuming and set design surrounded by friends, new and old.

Registration is still open and is encouraged to get a prime spot in the infield and early admission. Reserve your spot at Opera at the Ballpark and learn more about the evening.

There's always something going on here in San Francisco!

How fabulous, Lottie.  I love going to the ballpark to watch a game.  And to watch Rigoletto is going to be amazing.  I hope you get to go.

Will the opera singers sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at intermission?

Ron- Giants & Dodger-quite a rivalry there!

Jane, it sounds like a fun evening, doesn't it? AT&T Park is fabulous, and enjoying it for a FREE opera? Another 'only in San Francisco' moment!

Jim, it's fabulous venue. Last Saturday I was sailing on the bay; we passed the completely filled stadium while the ballgame was in session--quite an interesting perspective1

Phil, I guess if the Opera cast could sing the National Anthem there a few weeks ago, they could belt out "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" too! (Except for the little problem: they'll be singing at the Opera House while their performance is being simulcast.)

Lottie-I know a lot of folks like the opera but I don't know if I would or not but it may be better than watching a ballgame.

Lottie, what a great idea! Verdi's Rigoletto at the Ballpark!  I like the idea of the free simulcast. The Dallas Opera has done some simulcasts and they have been very successful.

Laura, there are so many fun, free activities, even in a large city. This one sounds great.

Sharon L., I like opera for the music and the stage settings; the plots? Not so much!

Sharon P - this simulcast is an annual event; a great gift to the community, and a great way to expose opera to a new audience.

Lottie:  Wow ... this is one big opera stage!  Sounds like a great place to hear beautiful music.  Much like our Ravinia here in Chicago.  I think the opera world is making strides at educating and recruiting new listeners.  We have opera performances showing in movie theatres here in Chicagoland.  Now a baseball field ... what next??

Hello Gene - yes, I think traditional arts are trying hard with their outreach programs. What next? Perhaps new fans will return to the opera house!
