The reason we should NEVER forget January 1, 2000!

The reason we should NEVER forget January 1, 2000!At some point in the early 1990s, some prognosticators began promulgating an impending cataclysm of epic proportions.

This new “End of the World” scenario did not involve nuclear holocaust or uncontrolled pandemic. Rather, it was based on a simple notion that our dependency on technology, if suddenly interrupted, would plunge us into anarchy, chaos and economic doom.

People actually believed that airplanes would fall out of the sky and the entire electric grid would be extinguished.

As a result, the momentous occasion was saddled with trepidation instead of celebration.

As we all know, when the clocks rolled over across the globe on Y2K, nothing happened.

It was much ado about nothing.

We allowed fear to consume us.

There are those now that are once again predicting an imminent catastrophe.

If history has taught us anything, it is to NOT borrow trouble.

And while our lives may be affected to some degree, it is NOT a matter of life or death.

We will survive! So just relax.

We will survive and with that new show coming about the lights going out it will I am certain instill more fear. To bad Hollywood can;t do a positive show about what we are doing.

Words of wisdom...don't borrow trouble.  We have enough natural calamities that we do not need to make up a few more.

Hi Richard.  In the summer of 2000, I went on a listing appointment to small home on several acres of land.  I took note of  the greenhouse, the generator, and the stockpile of water and canned goods, and I said, "You took Y2K pretty seriously, didn't you?"  I guess they were disappointed that the world didn't end after all.

We lived across the street from a couple that filled their garage with gasoline, water and 6 months of dehydrated food. Their back sun room had firewood from floor to ceiling. They divorced 1 year later. I heard she was sick of the food.

Richard,

I'm reminded of the old quote that says, good news doesn't sell newspapers. A lot of people like to read about the sensational. By the way, I work for a company that made an awful lot of money capitalizing on the year 2000.

Richard, I spent a good part of 1999 working on production floor software system Y2K updates to make sure we didn't have problems.  By the way, on the total chaos and blackout thing, did you happen to catch the new NBC show Revolution last night?

The same is happening right now. .

A nut makes a video. .and uses freedom of speech to broadcast it..

but somehow they think it comes directly from our Government.

Some people made a lot of money on books and talks warning people of the impending disaster.  Of course that happens with all of these.

There are businesses making money on this forecasting of doom. Guaranteed!
In 1999 I owned a computer networking business. Our insurance company almost doubled our Error & Omissions Policy Premium because they said they were preparing for the flurry of Y2K claims against all their computer clients.
We had NO claims, but the insurance company had already collected our inflated premium payment.

Had it not been for folks like my husband in the world of technolog that fevorishly wrote code correcting programatic clocks that had no idea how to,roll ove to 2000 and beyond there definitely could have been some banking issues.  Just goes to show how the folks tht wrote that original code weren't thinking very far ahead.

Many of the worries , actully all the worries were man made to excite and panick people into buying things they did not need.  The books for one.

Ah, yes...dooms day in October, right? Here is what I believe: whenever anyone says the world will come to an end on a specific day I am fairly confident that it won't happen as, and this is MY belief, only God has that knowledge ;)
