Hi Silvia, I was reading that there was about 12 places across the nation who were fighting over getting the Shuttle and one place is where I was born, March Air Base but the CA Science Center won and I am sure they had some strong regulations and restrictions plus they had to pay to get it here and build the lift at LAX so I am guessing that took a lot of money. Now they are going to put it on display starting Oct 12, 2012 and are going to raise 25 Million dollars to build its own building at the center. I am sure LA fought hard to win the competion over the other sites wanting it. It does sound like they are going to treat it right. I also read that ownership transferred from NASA to the Science Center but if due to National Security, they could take it back. Not likely but just in case necessary. That is the same conditions that the US Warships are given away. They cannot modify the ships due to the fact that in case of a big war, they could restore them to full commission. I was surprised but understand.

Hi David, Honestly I did not know all those facts either but then when I started researching the history of the shuttle and the news talked about it every five minutes for days so it was not hard to find all the interesting facts. Glad you enjoyed it. I am sad that the Space Shuttle Era is over now as I grew up with it. We must look to the future.

Hi Toni,

It is a sad day that the space shuttle is ending but they learned so much to help us cure diseases and help better our world. I think one real cause was the cost and so many parts on the shuttle as well. I am happy we can treat the decommissioned shuttles as heroes like we do our battleships.

Hi Karen,

It was a real thrill to Californians to be able to come out on Friday morning and see the shuttle be carried home plus all the employees who had helped make it at JPL and Bourns and Edwards AFB where it had all of its testing done and some orbit landings as well.

Welcome Home Endeavour and we love you! We are giving her a heroes welcome. In two weeks, the streets will be lined with people waiting for it to pass by on its final leg of the trip, the 12 miles to the Science Center. I hope to be there to see it and get some pictures.

Hi Patricia,

Yes the important thing is that you got to see it as millions did not. We were lucky to get the chance. I complained as they were running late to they cut the Huntington Beach sweep short and passed by Bourns and did not go to the pier where I was but as it passed in the distance I got 7 pictures with my good camera and 5 came out great. I like the way the beach & palm trees showed up in the pictures too so maybe that was better now that it is said and done.

Hi DeeDee,

So many people did not get it so you are not alone. The day before it landed at Edwards AFB in the California desert and I happened to be home for lunch and talk about good shots. One of the chase fighter jets had a fixed camera and the pictures were wonderful so much better seeing it on TV and if you ever go to the Science Center, I am sure they will have highlights from the flight.
