Fast And Easy Fall Decorating For Planters & Window Boxes

It's time to transition your planters and window boxes from Summer to Fall.  You don't have to spend a lot of money or time on your planters in order to get colorful results.  This year I took the fast and easy route.

I simply added aspects of Fall to whatever remained from my Summer plants.

My window boxes had Portulacas in them all Summer.  They were looking a little sad, but the colors were right for Fall so I used them as a base.... and simply added gourds and small pumpkins.

A very inexpensive fix for an empty planter - add a pumpkin and some moss!

For this larger planter I added branches and fake flowers to the leftover Summer flowers.

Another option for a large planter....

add a pumpkin topiary and some flowers for color.

I placed a large pumpkin in the planter first, then I added the other pumpkins using hot glue in between to secure them in place.  I tucked moss between as filler.

The burgundy flowers are real mums, but the orange flowers are fake.

FAST and EASY!!

Michael:  Thank you!  The most economical part was gathering branches from the yard to use in the planter.  I usually use branches and pinecones surrounded by greens for Winter months.

Lloyd:  I have seen the white-ish pumpkins...love them!  I went traditional this year though.

Sharon. These are terrific ideas. I like the topiary idea..... How very creative. Right now pumpkins are dirt cheap . Do you have squirrels? I ask because the black squirrels love to eat pumpkins so they need replacing (yes, the squirrels and the oumpkins).

Valerie:  I can't take credit for coming up with the idea of the topiary...it's a popular look right now.  I have squirrels, but not black ones.  I haven't noticed any squirrel activity near the pumpkins...so far so good.
