Sowing Seeds with Negative Reads

By

habaneroThe main reason we are online is for our businesses. We communicate and connect through this network and we have respect for one another that surpasses the written word. If we all live by a daily moral code of healthy beliefs then we have no problem with taking it to the online level.

On our ActiveRain Real Estate Network, they gave us this ability to create a conversation by commenting about the article we are reading. More often than we would like we see many negative responses and retorts..... but it up to each individual as to how they handle it.

In light of those certain negative reads, we go forward with our blogging for business and bonding with our peers. We ignore those that tend to use this platform as their puffing up session by pointing at others but most tend to know that:

  • FACE TO FACE:  We ‘communicate’ the same online as we offline. WE show respect for others in the industry when talking with them face to face, so the same should apply online. RESPECT.
  • ONLINE CONFLICT SOLUTION: We pick up the phone and discuss the starting of an online argument. Others choose to write about it online, but it just shows that you just want people to side with you by trying to make it our arguement.  PICK UP THE PHONE.
  • PLAYING NICE IN THE SANDBOX.  If you write negatively about a topic or person, expect the same in your comment section. Deleting opposing comments and then disabling comments does not make you right. DISH OUT ONLY WHAT YOU CAN HANDLE BACK.
  • YOUR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY.   It shows that you are not willing to see any opposing views or have a ‘conversation' with another. Step in another’s shoes and try to see their side.  OPEN MIND.
  • HAVING THE LAST SAY. It creates animosity and shows the rest of us that that individual clearly does not want the other person to be right. AGREE TO DISAGREE if all else fails.

Be a participant in our REAL estate community instead of kicking up dust.

Agree to disagree.

Sowing Seeds for Positive Reads.

I must say that I have found that most posters and commenters on ActiveRain have been very respectful. That is why I keep coming back. When I see a rare negative comment, I remember how hard our jobs can be when we are over worked and exhausted, or underworked and broke. I try to take it all in stride and realize that some of the issues raised mean lot to some people and less to others.

I haven't been on AR much lately, I take it someone was throwing kitty litter again? I certainly can't see how that can be good for their business.

ALL:   I read all posts, negative, positive, local area, real estate, loans and more. A variety of topics for sure. There are always bound to be negative ones....but as always the outcome will be all in the manner of how I handle it.  THIS is how I handle it....with a reminder post for all to pay attention to the ActiveRain Guidelines..   There is a reason for those rules...and it helps to make for a better community. (which is what I tell clients when it comes to AOAO rules lol

As hard as I try to be positive...reading a bit of negative is actually a positive for me....it lets me know that there are all different kinds in our world....and reminds me of what I choose NOT to be.

Have a great day!!!

You know I do sometimes call out a "thing" and even a person who goes nameless in the post.  It generally though is about a real estate deal and I write the post to show howI solved the issue or dealt with a person to solve a problem.  But I hear what you are saying and completely agree.

Sally - I haven't seen as many negative posts lately - maybe because I've been too busy to spend a lot of time here so only read my favorite writers.

Sally ~> We find it best to steer clear from those who are highly opinionated. We enjoy reading posts that enhance our business and teach us something new. We love to read posts we learn something new from that we can bookmark to implement at a later time. Building relationships with people from many states is another favorite of ours.

When I founded the group Positive Attitude for the Weary Soul ---it brought about the most negative people and seemingly found out that these sorts thought it was an open door to jump on those who wanted to work on self in having a more positive outlook. More often than not...it is the people who try hard to NOT buy into the negativity of others who are strong willed.  No matter what, this community called ActiveRain has an abundance of information and in the end...we connect with others that are professionals and who knows...turns into a referral or two.  Those that rant and rave are just ones I would rather not associate with.... or have an online forever presence.

Sally- I don't "do" negative or cynical.  I do welcome constructive criticism. Negativity brings you down, being around negative people can have the same effect.  And I do appreciate those who can put forth a different opinion or call someone to task for something and still maintain a positive and adult manner.  It might be time for another PAWS challenge!

No huhu about the AR community that are pessimistic or critical about posts or comments without providing their solutions because leaders are fearless champions, aren't they? Like you, I agree that those who are reluctant or afraid to take a stand with solutions are simply spectators who pay to watch things happen. Everyday is Showtime and you're either a player or a spectator, so it's a choice, isn't it, as to what role you'll be?

Hi Sally, fortunately we get very few negative comments.  More often the comment sounds like they did not really understand our post.

Thanks for he share.  People feel brave when they leave a negative post because they can hide behind the "net" for cover.  It is much the way people drive thinking they are invisible when they continue to cut off traffic.

Sally,

There are subjects that need to be "Your way or the highway." The key is in the presentation, it is not necessary to insult some one to correct them. If you can’t make your point with out insults you have no point!

Perhaps the hardest thing to live with is the urge to "have the last say." It helps to remember who’s forum it is and who’s following your trying to convince. As you suggest "play nice in the sand box!" This is a discussion some times a debate. But never an argument!

Going negatively positively, no it’s not an oxymoron. Is one of the hardest things we need to do. Perhaps it would help to think of your Mother, harping on you not to play in the street, it often very similar. It’s all in the presentation!

Kimo:  I like to think I am 'unique'.  I am sure we can play both parts when needed :)

Bob: That's the one main concern...it all starts with not understanding and assuming.

Rob:  There is NO cover on the net.  Believe me, if there are some ghosts here then sooner or later they leave anyway.

Bill:  It is then just a round and round banter of insults. If one corrects someone with insults, then they literally are playing the same game. Our AR guidelines speak for themselves.  It is surely the hardest thing to do...adding a positive twist to something we read with a post of topics to hopefully have some who do....don't.  Thanks for your presentation too!

Communicate instead of argue. I don't really know anyone with opposing views who will listen unless respectful conversation is used.

Sally - I especially like your last point... agree to disagree.  Why keep something going when it's obvious neither party is going to change their mind?  Thanks for the great post!

You certainly make a great point, Sally.

On the other hand, my post about a horrible experience at a certain hair teaching school and the recommendation to go to another place that saved the day for me caused a local lady to contact me for the name and phone number of the person who saved the day. So while one place, that really did a job on my hair, lost a customer, another gained not only me as a new client but also somebody else. I do believe in getting the word out when a company is not professional and responsible.

Back in the early AR days there were some real knock down battles. People would say all kinds of crap. I think I have had 2 disrespectful comments. I just delete them. I won't give Trolls the attention.
