Welcome to Yuma, Arizona

You won't want to miss The Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival!  The festival is held every November- the weekend before Thanksgiving. It is an amazing spectacle of COLOR & beauty!  For over 10 years of my life in Yuma, I unfortunately, missed this beautiful event. Then in 2010 I was blown away when I caught my first  Balloon Glow with my sons. The next morning we watched the balloons launch as the sun rose. That was it- I'm hooked! They are so incredibly beautiful!

Balloon Glow

Each year an organization formed in 1962- The Caballeros de Yuma (Gentleman of Yuma), proudly present The Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival and many other wonderful events here in Yuma, AZ.  For those of you not familiar with the organization, they are a wonderful group, comprised mostly of local area business people. Their goal is to attract folks from all over the world to Yuma, while raising money to fund scholarships for local students.  Our beautiful winter weather is amazing by itself, but then they add HOT Air Balloons to that mix and the Caballeros de Yuma certainly achieve the WOW factor with this event!! There are few things that my husband and I will haul our children out of bed before dawn for. Its a short list and The Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival, is on top!

Balloons Landing on the edge of a lettuce field For us it is now a family tradition.  When I was a little girl living in Tucson, my parents got me and my little sister out of bed early one morning to see a balloon festival.  It was a magical morning filled with Hot Chocolate and a rainbow of colors.  The Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival is one of those magical moments that everyone, not just children, should experienceThere is something amazing about seeing all of these beautifully colored balloons lifting up out of the West Wetlands Park and then later descending into nearby fields.  The Pilots are very skilled and seem to be able to land them almost anywhere.

Don't miss out this year!  The Balloon launches are all free and the Balloon Glow, which is spectacular, is only $1 per person with a canned food item!

Bring your smile, your camera, your oohs and awws, a blanket or some lawn chairs and enjoy!

Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival Oh, and please don't forget to visit the vendors Saturday and Sunday at The Colorado RiverCrossing Balloon Festival at West Wetlands Park and at The Balloon Glow Saturday Night at Desert Sun Stadium for some tasty treats! The Sunrise Rotary Club will be providing Food and Drinks with all proceeds benefiting local charities. Get your HOT Cocoa and Kammann Sausage! Yes there will be other things to munch and drink, but those to are tradition!!

Michelle:  Balloon fests are amazing sites.  We have one in Galena, IL each year and the balloons fly overhead all the homes in the Territory.  Spectacular!  Hope you get to enjoy your fest this year!

Hi Michelle, I love watching all those balloons from the ground level, but I doubt that I would ever want to take a ride in one of them. I may have to add Yuma, Arizona to my bucket list. Never been there, but I can tell they have some exciting things going on there.

What an incredible sounding event... wish we were close enough to attend! We used to live in New Mexico where there was a stunning balloon festival. Quite the sight to see!

Jon, I did not know that about the Derby!  Very Cool!

Gene, Thank YOU!  I will!  I would love it if they would all fly right over my house!  That would be so neat!

Jerry, Yes, Yes!  Add Yuma to your bucket list!! There is a lot to do here! We are only 2.5hrs from San Diego, too, you could make it a twofer!.

Gretchen, Oh how awesome!  I heard it is a spectacular event as well!  At least you got to go while you were there! :~)
