TRAIN OF LIGHTS – NILES CANYON RAILWAY

Each year for the last five years we have celebrated the Holiday Season by taking a trip on the Train of Lights. It is not a long trip – only 13 miles round trip from Niles to Sunol – or the other way around – but the distance is not the point. The point is enjoying the hour spent on the train with family, enjoying the lights, seeing the sunset, viewing Mission Peak, sipping a cup of hot cider or hot chocolate and having a visit with Santa. The train goes one way, stops for a few minutes and then returns to the starting point. Passengers do not disembark mid-trip.Train of Lights

If you take the 4:30 train from Niles you can enjoy the sunset, the beautiful fall colors of the foliage and see Mission Peak in the distance. On the return leg of the trip, you can enjoy the lights. Train of LightsIf you take the 7:30 train from Sunol it is all about the lights. In either case, you can sit inside or in one of the open cars or wander around to enjoy both. The trains run every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Friday, November 23rd through Sunday, December 30th.

Train of Lights

It is a very family-friendly event. Our group included our daughter and son-in-law and the granddaughters; my wife’s sister, her husband and their daughter, her husband and the grandsons. Who enjoys the Train of Lights the most? The kids!

 I recommend this event.

John, I was not aware of the Train of Lights.  This is one reason (just one) I love ActiveRain ... we learn so much about communities near and far.  I've been on the Wine Train in Napa Valley which is great fun as well. The Train of Lights sounds like a wonderful holiday event.
