Collaboration vs. Competition

By
Home Stager with Spruce It Up! Oregon's Real Estate Stager
I recent;y attended a roundtable forum in Portland OR where I formerly served on the board of a regional professional association.  I live in Salem and have discovered several other stagers (2 IRIS 2 IAHSP) willing to collaborate and work together to build the market in the Mid-Willamette Valley where change is slow to come.  One of our goals is to promote the value of our work, our professionalism and our commitment to a high standard of excellence.  If you are a professional stager or redesigner (trained, insured, carry a designation, have an affiliation with a professional association)  in our area and would be interested in same, please contact me:  Liz Harrison Spruce It Up! Yes Liz...there is strength in numbers.  Staging is thought "by many" as a little bored housewife wanting something to do...It is a business.  By the collaboration you will elevate yourself and your peers to new heights...let me know how it goes.

Renee-We're aiming for the stars!  At the risk of sounding eliteist,  I'm also wanting to distinguish the professional stagers in our area from those "bored little housewives" that are calling themselves "stagers" with no interest in building a respectable business. I'll be posting every story about our success and trials as we go along.  Regards, Liz

Liz, congratulations on thinking bigger than your training.  I am meeting up with stagers from all over the country many of whom embrace RESA for just that reason.  It is an industry that will define us and collaboration is the only way.  By being united we bring more to the table and evoke professionalism and standards and the good karma developed by our collaborations just brings us further along on the path to our business success.  As to the "hobby stagers"  you might be interested in Kym Hough's post that stirred up quite a discussion.  I think you'll enjoy reading it.  http://activerain.com/blogsview/325038/I-am-a-Professional  Thanks for declaring your values on this forum.

Liz ~ You're on the right track in wanting to collaborate with other like-minded staging professionals, and as Terrylynn mentioned, the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA) is another excellent professional association that any stager can join, regardless of their training background. By working together and sharing our common goal of educating both REAs and homeowners about the power of staging, we're moving forward.  Be sure to let me know if we can help you from here in Portland!

Maureen:  I value your mentoring and encouragement.  I'm keeping at it in the face of bids that are declined because sellers/Realtors think it costs too much or that they can do it themselves! -Liz
