Fun And Interesting Facts About DallasDallas is a diverse city with much to offer. Here are some fun and interesting facts that you might not know about this wonderful city:

- Dallas is the 9th largest city in the United States at just over 1.2 million people. The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex collectively encompasses 12 counties and is the largest land-locked metropolitan area in the United States at just over 6.5 million people.

- Recent polls show that Dallas is the 3rd most populated city in Texas. Houston is #1, and San Antonio is #2.

- The City of Dallas Water Utilities reported its record daily usage was on September 4th, 2000. On that day 789.6 million gallons of water was used.

- Dallas gets somewhere around 30 million visitors a year. - Many sources have sited Dallas among the top 10 cities to launch a business, or conduct business. The fact that Dallas is home to 18 Fortune 500 companies helps show this to be true.

- The first planned shopping center in the United States was Highland Park Village Shopping Center. This center was built in Dallas in 1931.

- The Dallas Arts District covers 68 acres making it the largest art district in the US.

- Dallas is served by 2 airports, Dallas/Fort Worth International (also known as DFW) and Dallas Love Field. There are approximately 2000 daily flights in and out of these 2 airports. Dallas/Fort Worth International is the 4th busiest airport in the United States.

- The Hams were the first professional baseball team in the city of Dallas. They were a minor league team that played in 1888. Today, Dallas is home of 4 major sports teams: The Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers,  the Dallas Stars, and the Dallas Mavericks.

- The first convenience store was in Dallas in 1927. The concept took off to form the popular 7-Eleven convenience stores.

- Bonnie and Clyde met in January 1930 at a mutual friend’s house in Dallas.

- A first edition copy of the Declaration of Independence is in the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in downtown Dallas.

- The Big Tex statue has stood at the entrance of Fair Park in Dallas since 1952 and greeted visitors to the Texas State Fair. Big Tex was 52 feet tall! Unfortunately, Big Tex burned down during the final week of the Texas State Fair in 2012. City and State Fair representatives say that Big Tex will be back for the 2013 fair bigger and better than ever.

The city itself is. I was surprised myself. The area as a whole (DFW Metroplex) is much larger than any other in Texas.
