“Dealing with an Unethical Real Estate Agent”

Greed is sometimes tempting, but are you willing to sell you soul? My wife and I were out over the weekend looking at properties that would be a good candidate for a flip.

House for SaleOn Friday, I received a call from a Realtor I have never met before. He said he had heard that I was always in the market for a great buy and he had one. We set up an appointment to see the property the next day.

I knew we were in trouble, when he showed up in a beat up pickup with the license plate taped to the back window. After introductions were made, we proceeded to attempt to get into the house. Finally after 10 minutes, we were in.

As we were being shown the property he kept telling us, that he controlled the property. What does that mean? Do you have a listing? Well not exactly. The owner is in the hospital and the son asked me to start showing the property, as his mom, is in her last days. I was stunned!

My wife’s only comment, “Are you kidding me?” I’m not going to tell you what I wanted to do to this person. It is hard to believe, that in this day and age, crap like this still goes on. I wouldn't buy something from this guy, if he had the last property on earth.

MoviesWe abandon our house hunting for the day, decided on a movie instead. We saw, “Safe Haven”, a really touching story. Our day turned out better after all.

Ho Joe, It never ceases to amaze me that agents like this actually get business. I feel sorry for the people that actually trust them enough to work with them.

All I can say is 'wow'.  Maybe dealing only with a couple of trusted agents is the way to go.  I know what you mean about investors always asking to be updated on the newest deals though - I've never had one buy anything yet.

Hello Joe,

Wow - I wonder if you checked the state license board you would discover that his realtor license is not current...or, if he even has one!

Joe was he even a licensed real estate agent? If so then you can place a complaint with the Ct real estate commission.

Joe, every industry has it share of sleazy, ours just seems to get more of the attention.  You made the right decision and are better off for it.

Thanks, Joe, for sharing this story.  With agents like this, it is easy to see why the image of real estate professionals needs some polish.

Have a great day and a very special weekend.

Joe, this is an upsetting experience especially when you do have the knowledge you do...these creeps taking advantage of people and crossing the line.
