Old Indian's Wise Words Regarding Daylight Savings Time in Arizona

When told the reason for Daylight Saving Time, the Old Indian said,
"Only the government would believe that you can cut a foot off the top
of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and get a longer blanket."

Do Arizona's change their clocks back and forward?

Do People in Arizona Change Their Clocks this weekend?

No and Yes

Here's the deal  - all of Arizona does not follow the daylight savings changes in the fall and spring.  The only place in Arizona that does change their clocks is the North East section of Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation.   Perhaps they started the practice as there was not a lot of electricity back in the 40's when the whole changing clocks back and forward got started?  Or perhaps they were made to do so by the government - why makes no sense to me so that's probably not likely.  I really don't know the real reason but I'm sure it's out there somewhere. Do you know?

Why are Daylight Savings Changes confusing to Arizonan's?

I know this one from personal experience!  Because we don't change it gets confusing when we have to remember how many hours we are from east coast time, central time, mountain time and pacific time...not to mention everywhere else on the planet.  I remind myself often that in the winter we're on 'mountain time' and in the summer we're on Pacific time - we just don't mess around with changing clocks back and forth.  The whole changing clock thing seems kind of silly to me, always has even when I lived I cold and dark Minnesota!

Why not just stop the whole changing time thing everywhere and then there would be no confusion!!!

Anna: I always thought it was dumb. Lived in Honolulu for years and we never changed our clocks. Here in California, we do.

Ms. Anna Banana, well that's very interesting.  I thought everyone changed their clocks.  Personally, I enjoy the daylight well into evening hours.  But I have a question: does this mean we in CA know what happens an hour before you do? ;-)

Good morning Anna. I think the old Indian had a real good thought. It never made sense to me either. Anyway I hope the sun shines for you today.

I just saw that on Good Morning America Anna.  Very insteresting.  In Indiana, we just recently started changing our clocks.  I don't like it.  Not one single bit.

Anna,

Love that Indian saying, and how true it is.  Now, we are on the same time as you are (on Sunday).  It drives me batty some days as we have clients in Hawaii who will now be three hours behind PST, and when we were there visiting them, we had to get up early to talk to our EST clients...Have a great weekend, A

When I worked in Honolulu eons ago that was an issue. So confusing. And now, when I meet my buddies for our 6:30 am hike we'll be using headlamps again!

I have the worst time with the clock in my car.  I have to find the booklet and then try and find the right page.  I remember it causing havoc on my children when they were little and now it confuses their children.

Anna- I'm with you.  I have a hard enough time figuring out what time it is on the west coast and if Atlanta is in East Coast or Central Time.

Hi Anna, I wondered how that worked!  I never knew just one portion of the state changed time.  I thought the entire state did not!  Have a good weekend.

Changing times is very annoying as a practice.  I appreciate that I don't have to leave home in the morning in the dark so I like that.  By the time I get home in the evening, it really doesn't matter. I'm torn thought. Part of me wants the time to left alone and yet another part of me doesn't.

Oh and about the old Indian saying:  LOVE IT!!!

Lloyd actually not - we're on the same time now - pacific time.  For some reason that is easier to remember for me!

Roger - they were!  I'm with you!

Sheila 100% chance of sun shining in AZ!!

Jared - you just stared changing clocks. Why did they even start now?

Alexandra - much easier to remember for me now!  Kind of crazy for sure!

Lottie - headlamps now that is some serious hikers!

Liz - so many things to change....eeeks!

Kathy Atlanta is Eastern, right?  I can never remember either.....

Mike - it's odd for sure that only a tiny part of AZ changes.  Who knew???

Bob - let's get that started!!!

Kathy - thanks for the feature:)  I enjoy your weekly post!

Gary - I think most of us feel that way these days!

Charita - confusing and annoying - agreed!   Me too!!

Anna, I love the Old Indian's Wise Words.  Lenn, has also mentioned that "we are not losing an hour, we are gaining an hour of daylight."  She is as wise as the Indian!  BTW, I am still behind this morning because I lost an hour!

I don't think anyone is trying to make the day longer, just adjust our sleeping / waking patterns.  The sun still rises and sets, but we adjust an hour to better match the sunlight. Gosh, in the Pacific NW we need it ;)

Anna 'Banana', I'll just rework an old punchline from another joke and say:  We've got to get a longer blanket?
