Brian Block Steps into the Member Spotlight...

Brian has made many contributions on the rain, currently he is ranked 44 as the most subscribed bloggers on the network..... Brian Block is quite a unique individual.

One of the many writer's here that I really enjoy!

A former attorney, he practiced law in D.C. Not a bad previous life but it seems real estate was much more important to him ....

"After a year and a half in the business, I affiliated with RE/MAX and am an associate with RE/MAX Allegiance, the largest and top producing RE/MAX franchise in the world."

"A more detailed account of my transition from law to real estate can be had here: Where Were You on September 11th? (or how September 11th launched my real estate career) -- Part 2 of 2."

"My favorite aspect of the real estate business is helping people achieve their goals of homeownership, solving people's problems, and just the diversity of people that I'm able to interact with through my business in the D.C. area."    "For more about me than you ever wanted to know, read my post (You've Got) Personality ." (One of my favorite posts ever and quite genius)

I asked Brian what benefits he has received by blogging....

Disclipline - blogging takes time and consistent effort.  Since I've started blogging, I've become disciplined to set aside time each day for blogging, reading other blogs, and implementing the things that I learn from others.

Learning - there are so many talented Realtors, mortgage professionals, and other industry related practitioners participating on Active Rain, and throughout the blogosphere, and through reading their posts I learn something new every single day.  They provide good solid information that improves my skills in my business, my interaction with my clients, and opens up the possibilities on ideas for my posts. ·

Local Knowledge - the majority of my posts are written for Localism and for the consumers - the buyers and sellers in Northern Virginia and D.C.  Blogging forces me to keep on top of the local market trends, real estate news, homes for sale, other business issues that impact real estate, etc.  Of course, I did this before blogging, but since I've starting blogging, these efforts have been magnified and intensified. ·

SEO - both my Active Rain blog and my outside blog come up near the top of Google, Yahoo, and other searches for tons of important local keywords allowing potential clients to find me on the internet in ways that were not possible before blogging.  The more I write, the more I'm found.  It's great! ·

Clients - Yes, I've had quite a number of clients and potential future clients find me because of blogging.  Traffic to my blogs and websites have been increasing explosively since I took to blogging.  Additionally, I've found that when a client meets me and has read my blog, they feel as if they already know me quite well, and usually are not interviewing other agents at that point. ·

Referral Sources - Active Rainhas been such a great community of bloggers.  In 7 months, I know that I've become top of mind for many other professionals around the country who may have clients moving to the D.C. and Northern Virginia area.  Moreover, I now have a great national list of Realtors to whom I can send referrals when the occasion arises - and these are not just names and phone numbers in a book - these are people that I truly know and trust.  All from reading their blog.  I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet in person with over 20 Active Rain bloggers, and spoken on the phone with about 10 others.

I asked him what is his inspiration to write....."Not much.  I'm constantly writing down ideas for new blog posts.  It's like Pringles, "Once you pop, you can't stop!"  Honestly, in all my time blogging, I've never had writer's block.  I've heard that if you do something consistently for 30 days, it becomes a habit.  It was certainly that way withblogging."

What advice would you give new bloggers?   "To new bloggers, I'd say keep with it.  Many people get started and don't see immediate results and then stop.  Blogging can take a lot of time.  Think of it as laying the foundation for your future business.  You need to build up momentum and through consistent blogging you will become a better writer and a better Realtor.  Don't give up.    You don't need to strive for perfection in your blog posts.  The most important thing is to get your ideas out there and get your point across.  That doesn't mean be sloppy with your spelling and grammar. However, your blog does not need to read like an English literature masterpiece.  You're a real estate agent, not a professional writer.  Keep that in mind.  Add some personality so that your posts are not dry and the reader gets to know you a little bit."

Brian will be making his selections very soon and I know it will not be easy as there are some awesome posts in the group already...so if you are a member...start adding posts to the group that were never featured..and if not....we would love for you to join!....now is the time...as he will post his selections on Valentine's Day....

What a wonderful choice Midori.  Brian Block was the first person to take a personal interest in helping me get started in blogging.  His helpful advice and willingness to go beyond what is asked makes him an excellent blogger -- and we know that this kind of integrity and character makes him an excellent agent as well.
