Pick your Own Blueberries in Hernando County, Florida

Blueberries Photo by Silvia Dukes

Blueberry season is here and farm fresh blueberries are now available for picking or purchase at JG Ranch on Wiscon Rd in Brooksville, Florida!

At the beginning of January when others are shoveling snow, here in Florida we hit the fields to pick our own strawberries and in April when everyone sings the blues over tax season, the blueberries are coming in!

JG Ranch is one of the farms where you can pick your own blueberries in Hernando County.

They are open to the public Thursdays to Sundays  from 9 to 5.

Their phone number is 352-799-0556 or visit the JG Ranch website

I never thought of Florida as a big blueberry growing area. That is so neat. It takes acid soil for them to grow and thrive. That's something I haven't had any luck in reproducing here in Colorado.

I love these berries, and they are so good for you.

Sivia,

One of my favorite berries, and we really love them.  They are high in antioxidents, i.e. they are good for you.  We don't have a place to go picking them, and I wish we did. A

Those are some early Blue Berries.  I"m a big Blue Berry lover; where else can you get all the antioxidants that taste so delicious?

Debbie, there are actually a lot of Blueberry growers in Florida!  It's surprising, isn't it?

Fred, yes, the Blueberry Festival will be the first weekend in May!

Alexandra, fresh picked is always best regardless of what it is.  I also like the idea knowing who touched them!

Lloyd, what if I told you our strawberry season is basically over...
