Bathroom For the Stars ~ Before and after

Remodeling our secondary bath has been on the agenda for years! We made a decision before any other improvement project got started this year the bathroom remodel would be addressed! My wonderful stager/decorator Brian David (the wizard) came to the rescue and helped me create something a little “edgy”!

It’s our guest bath and we wanted something fun but tasteful! I loved the options Brian presented!! The first question he asked was why did we want the wall with the door that separated the double vanities from the commode and tub/shower? Good question!! Decision made....lose the wall and door and open the bath up!!

We hired a contractor to tear out the wall, door, remove the wallpaper & texture & paint, remove tiles around the tub, on the floor,  remove the light fixtures, commode, mirrors and re-vent. He removed the vanities and built taller ones that could be extended once the wall was removed!

Granite counters were installed with rectangular under mount sinks. The 10” X 20” floor tile is called “Linen Cooper” and has a sheen (very cool for the edgy look I was after). The 3” x 6 porcelain subway tiles are “Taupe Bright” and were installed vertically around the tub shower with 3 stripes of glass beige marble squares with the glass tiles repeated as the backsplash on the granite counters. The cabinets were painted “Tony Taupe” by Sherwin Williams with wall color “Accessible Beige.”

We found some very fun oil rubbed faucets to match the light fixtures and hardware we found for the cabinets as well as the towel racks. We found the perfect mirrors and were almost done!

During our bathroom remodel process I read Valerie Zingers post on Bathroom updating choices and bingo I knew what we needed to finish off our bath...a glass sweep! In many hotels in Europe we would find these and they are a perfect solution! Thank goodness I read her post before the tile was laid in the shower so the contractor could put the studs in the wall for the glass sweep to be installed. Thank you Valerie!!  We found a company Arrow Glass and Mirrors and they came out and measured, returning once the tile was on for final measurement and 10 days later our bath remodel was complete with a glass sweep installed with an oil rubbed handle to match the decor!

Geno likes to say all we need is a disco ball hanging from the ceiling!! Ha ha… Not true..Brian thanks for helping us….I love our new look!!! (I only wish I had gotten a good "Before” shot but I came home to take the photo and the contractor had already removed the wall and door).

What a fabulous looking guest bath Dorie. Everything you did is my taste too from your colors to your tiles to your cabinets...but I haven't read Valerie's blog post yet so what is a glass sweep?

Dorie, Remodeling the baths can make a HUGE difference!  We've gutted both of ours over the last few years (down to the studs and even put in new subfloor), then brought in the pros to tile, new fixtures, etc.  A lot of work, but well worth it!

I didn't know those things were called Glass Sweep. I love the look. I am aching to remodel my bath and it's only 6 years old. I figure I have to wait at least another 9 years.

I am incurably hooked on remodel jobs. When I get old and feeble, I'm gonna plant myself in front of HGTV all day long and watch remodeling shows. That would be like heaven to me. I love your look. I did a similar thing but since my bath is a walk-in shower, I used 4 columns of block glass that stepped-up for the barrier, each column was one block higher.

Hi Dorie, your new bathroom looks dynamite-I really love the tile and the storage but the shower, which is what you see immediately as you walk in,  is just stunning! A glass sweep is a great way to finish it off - very European and practical.  Can I come stay and use the shower?
