Benjamin Franklin and the Franklin Stove

Benjamin Franklin and the Franklin Stove, folks we sure did not hear much on the subject of Benjamin Franklin and the Stove which he invented to help folks. At least I don't remember it coming up way back when I was in School to many moons ago to talk about. How about you, do you remember the subject coming up in your School days?

Folks one of Benjamin Franklin's early inventions was the Franklin Stove, Plansstill called by his name to this day. By the mid-1740's, firewood was already scarce in the Philadelphia area, and air pollution was beginning to be a big problem. Benjamin Franklin's Stove Design in 1744 retained more heat than the Fireplaces or Stoves which were then in use, thus reducing the demand for using wood. Folks the Franklin Stove, which was a mid-room Furnace to replace the inefficient heating of the Fireplace in a home or other building.

Benjamin Franklin and the Franklin Stove, this cast-iron furnace would radiate heat from the middle of the room in all directions, and the iron walls even absorbed heat, providing heat to the room long after the fire went out. Benjamin Franklin's design was flawed, however; the Furnace lacked a chimney to draw fresh air through the inner chamber, and the fires shortly went out.

Ever the altruist, he refused to patent his invention and insisted on "giving it to the world". Benjamin Franklin never lost interest in the subject. In 1785, concerned over the polluting effects of coal, he designed another stove which burned soft coal and consumed its own smoke.

Benjamin Franklin and the Franklin Stove, folks there was another inventor of early Philadelphia, by the name of David R. Rittenhouse, who improved the design by adding an exhaust pipe and chimney. The Franklin Stove was also known as a Circulating Stove and the Pennsylvania Fireplace.

Dale,

I forgot all about Ben Franklin inventing his stove. Mr. Franklin was a complex man who did many wonderful things.
