Patience Grasshopper-The Pebble is Within Your Reach

By
Real Estate Agent with Integrity Real Estate Group

Patience among bloggers seems to be hard to find.  By the number of posts we see asking how to get a blog to Page One on Google in 30 seconds or less, it seems that most people who are blogging think that it should bring instant recognition and readership.

As Master Po would say to young Caine, "patience grasshopper."  Finding the instant solution to bringing an audience to your blog is not the way to build readership or credibility.  As you look around, especially outside of AR, you see blogs that have evolved over time to become the heavy hitters in the industry.  The ones recognized in all of the top lists have been here for awhile and many were the ground breakers while everyone else was still working on positioning their websites.

Spending time studying some of the techniques that these successful bloggers use has given me an interesting perspective on the instant gratification that so many seem to be looking for.  None of the successful bloggers that I read seem to be interested in keyword stuffing, they certainly don't post 10 times in a day and they aren't posting just for the sake of posting.  They post meaningful information about their area, the industry or the market.  They manage to stir up just enough controversy to keep it interesting and they bring you back again with a headline that captures your attention.

So for me following the advice of Master Po and being patient is my goal.  I've tasted success with my blogging and now remind myself that good things come to those who take time to learn from the masters.

I do not blog here to get on the front page of this site. I blog here because allows those interested to learn about me and my business.

Good post.

This is great....I blog for every reason out there.  I was and english major in college and I love writing.  I love competition and yes, I like the visibility.  Mostly, I am diligent and hate quitting things that I've started.

CINDY - I agree that it takes time to get to where you want to be.  However, there are some tricks that you can use to rise up for specific posts.  Anyone interested in doing this should read Katerina Gasset's posts on longtail keywords.  It is important to note that this is just for specific posts, and that to get the overall blog at the top takes time and patience (as you mentioned).

Cindy another great post to think about.  I'm still spending more time reading than posting but I'm always confused about the 10 posts in a row on AR and wondering why someone would think that is a good idea.  Now back to reading.

Exactly and well said. I used to get anxious when I didn't have anything "meaningful" to write. I've learned when I've got something to write, write it, if not, no biggie.

Well done, Cindy!  I started blogging in Aug 07 and it is only recently that I have started to receive consumer contacts from my efforts.  It takes time to build a blog and give the consumers enough interesting information that they want or need.  That cannot be accomplished overnight no matter how SEO savvy you are.

Cindy, I follow the advice of Master Po.  I started blogging March 2007.  It took until about July until I really hit my stride.  It then grows by leaps and bounds afterwards and long as you stay consistent and relevant.  Get rich quick or get clients quick scheme, blogging is not.

Larry-I like the writing and exploring places I had forgotten about in our area.  Sometimes the "competition" can be a bit of an annoyance but I've quit worrying about being on top and concentrating on doing the best that I can and learning from the top dogs.

Adam-oh don't get me wrong I do think about the keywords and the long tail.  I just don't expect instant gratification from each and every post.  Blogging is about the long run not the quick hit.  I've still got a lot to learn but I'm enjoying being the student!

I thank all the pro-bloggers here on AR, because without them, I wouldn't necessarily see the benefits...but I see them and plan to be in this for the long haul. Like Brian B. said, I'm waiting to hit my stride.  Just hanging out in AR and absorbing all the great knowledge here.

Craig-I can tell when I am forcing myself to write a post vs having something that I really want to say.  So now I'm concentrating on the ones that reach out to my target audience.

Brian-you are right this is not about the get quick rich scheme.  I'm still trying to "hit my stride".  I'm beginning to learn about what works and doesn't when it comes to my own writing.

Cindy I agree.  Everyone blogs for a different reason.  I only have so much time and I try and make sure what I write is relevant to my consumers, with the occasional commentary piece for variety.

Lisa-I'm beginning to get consistent phone calls.  Some of them aren't about real estate but about a question about one of the historic places I blogged about.

Melina-I've made the decision to focus my blog on the local area.  On AR I occassionally throw in something that is unrelated to get other opinions but in the end it is about getting the consumer to call.
