Looking At Courage Once More

By

Randy PauschWith REALTORS griping about business being down in certain areas of the country due to supply and demand issues, my retort to them often is "give me a break!" Buck up, bucko! What you need is a dose of courage in hard times. Some don't even know what courage is. Courage is not just not being "afraid." It is doing what you have to do despite fear and coping with things the best you can with the cards you are dealt. In the face of death, some truly show lots of courage. It's not fun, but you have to get through it. Here is a look at courage once more through the eyes of

Randy Pausch, Carnegie Mellon professor dying of pancreatic cancer. (11:32)

It's not dying that is hard, but the real work of living!

Gary - Awesome post - when I saw that the clip was 11 minutes, I thought, "oh, no".  I laughed out loud at him pouring coke in his new car.  A brilliant lesson in attitude - thank you. (flagged)

Gary:  "The real work of living"  how true is that statement!  All I have to do is think of others who have far more serious issues to deal with and those who have come through some of the darkest days most of us may never know and it's not difficult for me to be reminded that I have absolutelty nothing to complain about and all the reason in the world to be grateful, if only  for the mere fact of being alive and able to get up each day and do something I really love.

Gary:  I had not seen the video when I wrote the comment above.  This is just unbelieveably awesome.

Virginia: Pouring coke in the car did illustrate the point of things vs. people very vividly. I know the clip at 11 minutes something was a bit long but Randy was cramming the highlights of his last lecture for Oprah's show.

Donna: I was hoping to get some more exposure for the heavily downloaded clip for some who had not seen it.

Jesse & Kathy: Perserverance you are right gets you through things the best you can.

Gary thanks for posting this I think it is a great reminder of what should be important in our lives.  I was worried when I saw a couple of Randy posts yesterday afternoon, but he is still doing OK for now.

Gary this is so true ....on so many levels!

Hearing Randy's story and how he is dealing with it...we are witnessing true selflessness! I believe his demeanor is out of love and respect for his family. His very young children will have a legacy of true courage!

Gary, This brought tears to my eyes, how sad to lose such an incredible person.  I love the way he lives his life and if giving thousands of people some real help in their own  lives by the examples he sets.  Thanks for sharing this.

Joey: Yes, he is taking it the best he can in stride.

Carolyn: I hadn't on Google been able to find out how he currently is doing.

Joan: His comment that it stinks, for his children is very true.

Marey: Facing fear head on is so not natural for us.

Carole: He really stresses that life is to live it and not be morose.

Gary, let me get the tissues to dry my eyes.  What a powerful post.  It is so true attitude is everything and laughing is the best medicine.  A couple of months ago I was feeling anxious about the market and then told myself to snap out of it!!  Stop fretting and get living.  Business comes to you all the time, it might be a different volume, but we will all be just fine.  I am so blessed in my life in so many ways, so what if you sell a few less houses this year than last.  Maybe it is God's or nature or whatever someone believes, way of making you stop and smell the flowers.  You can't sell thousands of houses and then die, what is that?  Not a life?

Thank you for the post, it made my day!

Gary, I watched his presentation for the first time on You Tube last week.  It was so inspirational, that I found another one of his lectures that was an hour long.  I loved his positive attitude and his message.  Great statement, "It is not the dying that is hard, but the real work of living."  I'm gonna have to start keeping track of all these great quotes that you are coming up with.
