Time Management Quadrant...

By

I think I first was exposed to this grid at a Ken Blanchard seminar.  I have used it many times and I have also tried to keep a good balance of spending more time in Quadrant 2, but it isn't always easy.

                                                       Time Quadrant

When you cross the axis of "Importance" and "Urgency", which one wins?

Quadrant 1 is known as the "CRISIS" Quadrant.  You want to spend as little time here as possible.  If the building is on fire, it's important and urgent and action must be taken immediately!

Quadrant 3 is known as "INTERRUPTION" Quadrant.  Things seem urgent and important, but you find out that someone else's "urgency" doesn't always match up with what is important to you and your goals.

Quadrant 2 is the "PRODUCTIVE" Quadrant. This is where we should spend most of our time; planning, preparing, being productive IN our businesses and our lives.

Quadrant 4 is the "MENIAL TASKS" Quadrant: Yes, time wasting by watching TV or doing idle, non-productive tasks, but there are things that can be PLANNED in Quadrant 2 that can be performed in Quadrant 4, such as maintenance of a web site or washing windows to impress a customer.

There are items like emptying the trash that if not done, soon will find themselves moving to Quadrant 1!

I hope you can examine this grid & take away what works for you. Try to categorize your daily tasks and identify if they are important or urgent or both or neither... Concentrate on spending Quality Time in Quadrant 2 and plan for the recreation that may seem to be Quadrant 4.

Always looking out for your next move on Idaho Real Estate in the Boise Idaho real estate market,

Hi Don,

Very interesting.  I am going to look at this more and see where I am in the quadrants, and hopefully figure out how to spend most of my time in the 2nd quadrant.  Thanks.  Have a successful week.  Michael A. Caruso

Don, this is great for realtors to read because even if we work many hours, how much of it is really productive and lead generating?
