I Want to Blog BUT, I Don't Know What I Know!

I read all of the interesting featured blogs, with all of their insight, and even relate to most of what's written. But as I ponder my submission, which is needed if I want to make my presence on Activerain worthwhile and effective, I am confronted with a blank page. Then the startling reality hits me like a ton of bricks. I don't know what I know!  All of a sudden, as if I have been hit with another idiot stick, my mind is a blank.

  • What can I describe that would make someone want to read my blog? What controversy can I stir up to generate a comment or two that would increase my standing? How can I possibly call myself a professional when I literally don't know anything about my business? Then I take a deep breath, put away the coffee cup, because I've already gotten my self panicked enough, and put up a blank screen.
  • I can certainly relate to my local housing market, we have an 11-month inventory and the experts claim that a 5-6 month inventory is the norm. Well then what types of homes are selling? Everybody is looking for the ‘bargain", the Steal' the ‘foreclosure' that needs nothing and I instantly have $100,000 in equity. Doesn't this seller know that I deserve their house at half price? We all have clients in our sphere that are like this.
  • Let's write about our experiences. After all, maybe somebody's unique way of marketing his or her properties has a possibility of working for me.
  • Every day I get special offers for marketing aids that are guaranteed to increase my business ten fold, and it's only going to cost me $75.00 per month. How can I not relate this exceptional experience to my fellow professionals so that I can not only feel good about spending the money, but I can also console myself that I wasn't the only one suckered by a fast talking telemarketer.
  • What's going on in my community that will make me stand out above the rest? (Maybe nobody will see my name on the police blotter?) Little league sign ups, town budget discussion, new businesses in town?
  • Maybe a light topic about coming out of the winter and getting ready for spring. Let's buy new rakes, lawnmowers, losing a couple of pounds so that the neighbors won't laugh hysterically when they see the blob working in the yard?

A decent article is one that can be read in less than 2 minutes. It needs to be informative, lightly written so that someone doesn't lose interest; must have a catchy headline. How do I get creative enough in an hour to two so that someone will spend 90 seconds of their time pondering my thoughts?  Relax then spell check the page in front of you that relates your experiences.

Been there, done that, Ed.

By now, you've figured out that "just doing it" usually is the trick - and it does work wonders once you've started.

You have several advantages over me that should be easy fodder for any number of blog posts: you're older, know our area's history like the back of your hand, had a ton of experiences outside of real estate that you could draw analogies to real estate with, and the list goes on and on.
